The five defendants were all found guilty by the Thong Pha Phum Provincial Court of shooting at, luring, or removing wild animals from their habitat, acting cruelly toward them, all of which are separate offenses. KhaoSod stated that the plaintiffs’ punishment was reduced in half as a result of their guilty plea. Initially, they received a nine and a half year sentence.

The court determined that the plaintiffs’ basis for filing the lawsuit, which was done out of retaliation for the Bengal tigers eating their cattle and to protect their property, was incorrect.

This serious issue is not only illegal, endangering the ecosystem and upsetting the natural order. Officials seized four guns, extra firearms, and further equipment, including 176 rounds of ammunition, two bottles of gunpowder, and one bag of gunpowder, from the five suspects to establish their intent to hunt wild animals and their capacity to survive for an extended period in the forest.

What a joke. "   the court determined that the plaintiffs’ basis for filing the lawsuit, which was done out of retaliation for the Bengal tigers eating their cattle and to protect their property, was incorrect. .."  Maybe someone out there can explain this because my English is just not that good.  Maybe I need to try Tenglish.

Let's see now who are they talking about the defendants or the plaintiffs?

Some Thai math.
Premchai got 16 months for killing a black panther.
These guys get 57 months for killing 2 tigers.
57÷2=28.5
28.5÷16=1.78
So one dead tiger equals
1.78 dead panthers.

Seems reasonable that the activists are angry.

These bits are big juju in Chinese Traditional Medicine. "Tiger Bone Wine" etc.

Yes indeed and for reference:-

a pair of tiger eyes can sell for $170. A paw is worth $1000. Tiger bone may be sold in powdered form for anywhere between $64-$168/lb or steeped in liquor to make ?tiger wine,? which has been known to sell for over $30,000 a case! A prized pelt could fetch as much as $20,000.

Thailand justice is a joke at best, these men lied but were given reduced sentences when they should have been extended,  a planned tiger hunt to make some extra money knowing it is highly illegal and the courts were lenient, shows how pathetic thai justice really is unless it is a farang doing breaking the law.

cut off their ears and privates

No fear of major consequences ... no wonder poaching is big business.

Wildlife trafficking is a multi-billion dollar business with very little risk involved, especially for the guys at the top earning the big bucks. If someone gets caught, it’s almost always the guys doing the actual poaching or trafficking, never the big cheeses who control the trade and make a fortune.
