Just trying to understand.

Thursday no booze correct

next week wed - Friday it is my understanding from the newspapers that there is a ban on booze sales over songkran.

Is that correct

On Chakri day? Never noticed. It's not a Buddhist or mourning day. Just praising the monarchy.

Booze ban over Songkran!!!! Wow, I think you got it in the wrong pipeline.

There are misc requests and appeals to the public to keep alcohol consumption under control. Don't drink and drive. Maybe certain alcohol free events?

Particularly from the Bangkok governor.

But a ban could provoke an uprise

There are the official regulations and then there is reality.

Sometimes the police encourage the bar owners to give them some money to stay (longer) open, serve alcohol, etc. And sometimes these decisions are made on the last possible day.

And all this is different for the different night life areas. I.e. in Bangkok the main areas are in different police districts. What happens in A has not much to do with what happens in B.

Best, ask the owner or manager of your favorite bar.

That was just the silly Bangkok Governor. There's no booze ban at Songkran, but many bars/restaurants close to give their staff the time off and because Songkran is a f**king nightmare.

Who do you think makes the rules for Bangkok

ban is being imposed with this being no sale and consumption of alcohol, using high-pressure water guns, smearing powder and wearing revealing clothes

I know financially it makes little sense but then again TIT

I don't think there is any ban over Songkran, but there is a ban next month(May) for 2 days because of the election?

Probably

Sure.

24 hours from May 13rd, 18h (6 PM).

(Saturday evening to Sunday evening)

In other news you read that alcohol is banned at (official) events.

That is more plausible and realistic to enforce.

But a ban for the whole city incl. shutting down bars/clubs etc.?

Drinks at my place.

Beers n home made fruity Sangria with lunch.

Cocktails at 6.

Loose, scantily clad women optional.

He 'governs' Bangkok. He has a lot of say, but he is not a ruler nor does he make the law.  I don't live 'in' BKK, but I saw that article. Didn't make any sense to me.

It is only correct if you go to the wrong bars.

Bargirls also take some time off.????????

Am I supposed to bring loose, scantily clad women or are you supplying?????????

Only optional? Not much fun then. Pass. ????

So this Thursday on Chakri day, there is no alcohol ban right?

The dinosaurs woke up in between and referred to "no booze on Songkran".

Good luck with that one! I'm going to get popcorn to truly enjoy Thailand's latest law enforcement attempt - possibly some limited lining of pockets might take place - stay tuned ????

No. It's not a religious holiday.

I don’t think it would matter as the Thais would be able to buy alcohol some where, the ‘uprising’ would be with the foreigners who appear can’t go a few days with out consuming alcohol.

I am neither thinking about Thais nor Expats but about the entertainment industry, bars/clubs etc.

No alcohol -> shut the doors.

Still can't believe it. What a stupid move for a city like Bangkok.

When did the Thai government ever think about businesses when it comes to alcohol sales, never !

Utter rubbish to even think about a ban at Songkran.

Even in covid times things carried on as normal up here in the deep bush of Isaan.

Exactly.

And as I assumed:

One of the preventative measures is an alcohol sales ban in official Songkran activity areas.
