I think you were correct with your original assumptions, my point was that he could also have been locked up in parts of the UK at these levels as what you are quoting as a UK limit is much lower in Scotland. -

Report Monk in Nonthaburi Brutally Assaulted Over Debt Dispute
Picture courtesy of Dailynews In a shocking incident, a monk from a temple in Mueang district, Nonthaburi, was violently attacked over a debt dispute. The monk, Phra Phromphong, suffered severe injuries after being assaulted by two men on April 19, who later abandoned him by the roadside in the Pak Kret area. The event was brought to public attention by Jutatip, the monk's sister, and Boontipat Charoenliha, the representative of the social advocacy group Dare to Step Forward. According to their statements, the attack took place at approximately 11 PM when the men confronted Phra Phromphong at his temple residence, demanding repayment of a 10,000 baht (US$300) debt. Jutatip recounted the ordeal, revealing that her brother sought refuge at her home, leading her to immediately take him to a hospital. Medical examinations disclosed serious injuries, including a broken left cheekbone, a fractured left jaw, and a deviated nasal fracture, alongside abrasions and breathing difficulties necessitating oxygen support. The Dare to Step Forward representative elaborated on the events, noting that upon Phra Phromphong's inability to settle the debt, one assailant struck his face with a firearm. This forced him to change out of his monk’s attire, after which the attackers coerced him to exit the temple and continue the beating in a secluded alley. Post-assault, the battered monk managed to flag down a taxi, facilitating his journey to seek assistance from his sister. As of now, there has been no confirmation on any police investigation into the assault. The incident underscores the critical need for safety and accountability measures, particularly concerning acts of violence within religious and community settings. It remains vital for authorities to investigate thoroughly and ensure justice for Phra Phromphong. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Thaiger -- 2025-04-22 -

Why haven't you learned Thai even after several years as an expat in Thailand?
5 tones and up to 11 Classifiers makes it very confusing I can converse in Thai but its not at all easy ,, women are easy to talk with but Thai men often deliberately dont want to understand ,, even my thai wife has noticed this when I talk with local in Thai ,, she says the men are lazy and ignorant..Sure my accent is not so great .. Then there are all the different dialects ....and the killer is that many Thais have nothing interesting to speak about anyway even the so called intellectuals . -
