British Retirees Escape Thai Jail After Violent Land Dispute
So what, they clearly leased it or something similar. I have a couple of land leases myself, it's no biggie. By the time those 30 years are up I'll likely have moved on or really moved on. -

Putin Calls for Significant Revisions to U.S. Ceasefire Plan for Ukraine
President Vladimir Putin stated on Thursday that Russia was open to a U.S.-proposed ceasefire in Ukraine but emphasized that any agreement must address the fundamental causes of the conflict and resolve numerous critical details. While his remarks signaled a willingness to engage in discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump, the extensive conditions he outlined suggested that an immediate ceasefire was unlikely. He detailed a range of points requiring further clarification and expressed appreciation for Trump’s peace efforts. Trump, who has repeatedly said he wants to be remembered as a peacemaker, has been actively pushing for a resolution. Both the U.S. and Russia now describe the war as a proxy battle that risked escalating into a much broader global conflict. Trump, indicating his willingness to discuss the matter directly with Putin, called the Russian leader’s statement "very promising" and expressed hope that Moscow would "do the right thing." He pointed to his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, who has been engaged in serious discussions with Russian officials in Moscow regarding the U.S. proposal, which Ukraine has already agreed to. The outcome of those talks, according to Trump, would reveal Russia’s true stance. "Now we're going to see whether or not Russia is there, and if they're not, it'll be a very disappointing moment for the world," Trump said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, however, remained skeptical of Putin’s approach. He suggested that the Russian leader was hesitant to outright reject the ceasefire proposal due to pressure from Trump. "That's why in Moscow they are imposing upon the idea of a ceasefire these conditions, so that nothing happens at all, or so that it cannot happen for as long as possible," Zelenskiy remarked in his nightly video address. While the possibility of a ceasefire remains on the table, Putin’s insistence on significant revisions casts doubt on any immediate resolution to the war. The coming days will be crucial in determining whether diplomatic efforts can bridge the divide or if hostilities will persist. Based on a report by Reuters 2025-03-14 -

Multi-Vehicle Pile-Up in Saraburi Leaves One Dead, Four Injured
Pictures from responders. A devastating nine-vehicle collision on Mittraphap Road in Muak Lek district, Saraburi province, has left one person dead and four others injured, including an eight-year-old girl. Authorities are now investigating the cause of the collision. The crash occurred at kilometre 29 on the inbound lane towards Saraburi. Among the vehicles involved were a saloon car, pickup trucks, a 10-wheel lorry, a raw milk tanker, and an 18-wheel articulated lorry carrying rice. The driver of the 18-wheeler, who collided with the rear of a 10-wheel lorry, was trapped inside his cab. Despite rescue workers’ efforts to free him using hydraulic cutting tools, he succumbed to his injuries before he could be extracted. He has been identified as Mr. Rewat 47. The other four injured victims were travelling in a burgundy Isuzu pickup truck. Among them were a young girl (8), two women with minor injuries, and the girl’s mother, who was critically wounded and rushed to Kaeng Khoi Hospital. The others received first aid at the scene before being taken to Muak Lek Hospital. The collision led to severe traffic congestion, with oil leaking from the damaged vehicles onto the road. Emergency services worked quickly to clear the wreckage and restore the flow of traffic. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and dashcam recordings to determine the cause of the crash. Preliminary reports suggest that a combination of wet road conditions due to rain and poor visibility may have contributed to the pile-up. A car driver involved in the crash reported that while approaching the scene, he noticed vehicles already at a standstill. As he attempted to steer away and stop, his car was suddenly struck by an oncoming lorry. Police from Muak Lek Police Station, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Wanlop Anwong, are continuing their inquiries and have called in the drivers involved for questioning. Further investigations will focus on whether speeding, driver error, or road conditions played a role in the deadly crash. -- 2025-03-14
