Hi all,

 

I'm going to be in Chiang Mai tomorrow, and would like some recommendations for used clothing shops.

 

I am a big guy, about 6'2" and 200 pounds, and even the biggest clothing I find at Central department store, or other new shops at the malls, doesn't really fit me well, so I'd like to find a nice selection of used farang clothing somewhere.

 

I have gone to Melon several times in the past, and some of the others in that strip just north of old town, but lately the selection has been terrible - and the clothes, for some reason, dirtier and dirtier - so I'd love to find some other places.

 

I've also recently been to 71 Export, just past Maya, and they can be great for certain (new) things, but again I would like to find and try some different places - and especially ones that might have larger, farang-cut used clothing that is nice and in good condition.

Very difficult to find clothing for big guys, i know because I'm a 'big boned' guy myselff and i find it hard and expensive in finding shirts and tee shirts although pants are easier to find and CM would be even harder, so good luck.

The San Pa Koi market on Thapae Road past the Nawarat bridge outbound has second-hand clothing.

There is a big used clothing store on Highway 118 past the 121 clover-leaf ( LHS towards Doi Saket ). Coffee shop below, clothing upstairs.

My GF has occasionally found shirts and trousers for me there.

I am 6 feet and 170 pounds, although I was up at your weight before dieting.

For t shirts basement of Central Airport next to where the string of banks are have sizes to 5XL.

That place and its sister store right where the OP has already been, along with the Tiger chain of stores have all gone downhill since Covid. Containers of clothing from Japan weren't getting in so they purchased large amounts from Cambodia and they were basically a bunch of junk that they are all having a difficult time selling.

 

The only places with some decent used clothing these days is a shop in the Nimann area and the Tiger shop on Mahidol, but they are asking really high prices (like 3-5K for decent pants and 5-7K for good quality and/or collectable Hawaiian shirts). There is some O.K. used clothing at Malin Night Market (but definitely not in larger sizes).

Thanks to all of you for your replies - kinda confirms my suspicions that second hand markets in Chiang Mai still haven't recovered from the pandemic, and may not for some time...

 

I'm going to Europe in a month anyway, so I am probably better waiting until I'm there and shopping at discount stores like TK Maxx in Berlin or the like, where things can be super-cheap - wanted to get something for the trip, but oh well.

An alternative may be to shop at the tailors on Chang Khlan Road in CM, IIRC they were not all that expensive. Had a couple of very lightweight trousers made there.

I’ve never been able to find any clothing that fits me at any clothing store in Asia. The shoulders of the shirts are always too small and the pants/shorts are not comfortable and funky. The closet is full of clothes that the wife imposed on me that are never worn. Just stock up during trips to the US.

Aliexpress has shops selling extra large clothing. Otherwise, order from Amazon and be done with it. Fit better, last longer, and generally higher quality.

This place is open and going strong.  The sign shows they get imports from US and japan. might be worth a try if the location is not too far out of town for you.
