TPBS Confirms ITV Plc, Subsidiary Have Shut Down

AMID a move to disqualify Move Forward leader and prime minister candidate Pita Limjaroenrat for holding 42,000 iTV Plc shares, a Thai Public Broadcasting Service (TPBS) executive said today (May 10) this company was closed in 2007, Sanook.com said.

 

Mr. Anuphong Chaiyarit, TPBS’s deputy director, added that iTV’s subsidiary which rented equipment to produce films had also shut down.

 

However iTV still retains the status of a juristic person because it is embroiled in a lawsuit with the Office of the Permanent Secretary, the Prime Minister’s Office (OPM – PM’s Office).

Move Forward leader denies claims he held shares in media company barring him as a Bangkok by News Desk

 

Move Forward Party leader Pita Limjaroenrat campaigns in Bangkok this week as the party surges in the polls just days before the General Election on Sunday. He has been reported to the Election Commission by Palang Pracharat Party list candidate Ruangkrai Leekitwattana for holding media shares while serving as an MP from 2019 to 2023.

 

Allegations against the Move Forward Party leader, if taken up by the Election Commission and forwarded to the Constitutional Court, could see him barred from politics. However, on Wednesday, key political analysts considered this unlikely.

Move Forward Party leader, Pita Limjaroenrat, on Tuesday, stoutly defended claims that he held media shares in a company when serving as an MP in the last parliament, an allegation put forward on the same day by a Palang Pracharat Party candidate and which could see Thailand’s most popular politician barred from politics.

 

Move Forward Party leader Pita Limjaroenrat who, according to opinion polls, is the country’s most favoured politician to become Thailand’s next Prime Minister, came out on Tuesday to strongly deny that he held shares in a media company which would have precluded him from being an MP in parliament.

Truly ludicrous if this results in the disqualification of a political party leader. How do shares in a company that closed down in 2007, and was delisted from the stock exchange in 2014, still matter in 2023?
