Social Media
A painting in the National Portrait Gallery has gained attention after a mother and daughter couldn't help but notice what appears to be modern-day footwear in the image - Nike trainers, to be exact. As a result, it's led people to speculate if the person in the painting is a "time traveller". Portrait of a Boy was painted by Dutch master Ferdinand Bol in the 17th century, which shows an eight-year-old boy standing in the foreground holding a goblet while resting his other hand on his hip. Well, that is until you take a closer look at the footwear to see what appears to be a white Nike "tick" logo on the side of the youngster's left shoe. That in itself is pretty impossible considering the fact Nike was founded in 1964, with the portrait being painted 300 years before this.

Popular Post StayinThailand2much
Proof that people get dumber and dumber, and that our educational systems are failing in educating today's kids... In aforementioned painting, if they were Nike shoes, why is the "tick" logo only on the inside of 1 shoe? Just checked pics of some other paintings and statues mentioned in time-traveller articles... A girl in a 1860s painting 'holding an iPhone', which is clearly (pssst, Generation Z, you may not know such a thing), a BOOK, perhaps a bible. And the ancient Greek woman's 'laptop' could be anything of that shape, perhaps holding a reflective surface or "mirror". (I suspect something similar for "Mr. Pynchon and the Settling of Springfield" at the Smithsonian's National Postal Museum, even though, on first site, it looks a bit like an iPhone. quake
What a load of BS. Honestly, time travel to pose for a painting, with trainers on. But the other news from yester-year, is B52 bomber found on the moon. Remember that one. that was at least funny. ezzra
The boy's shirt reminds me of Seinfeld's The puffy shirt episode. 1
Lemsta69
How very quaint they are across the pond. The Nike logo isn't a "tick", it's a "swoosh".

(There is something, but no "tick" like on the inside of the shoe on the right...) Faulty production by Nike? Maybe the time-traveller bought them in the early 90s in China... Maybe the Nike 'inventor' was inspired by the painting...
KhunBENQ
Funny how serious many posters take take this fun/joke topic. Must be the heat. The predictions by "The Simpsons" are much more stunning.
Mac Mickmanus
I do have my doubts that it was a time traveller . Its more likely just a shoe which coincidently (slightly) looks like the Nike logo
couchpotato
Yep definitely a Time Traveller. A 'swooshbuckler'.
