Located in Na Fai Subdistrict, Phu Pha Man District, Khon Kaen, also known as the Nong Haeo-Song Khon area, Phu Pha Man District, Khon Kaen, this natural quarry has rapidly gained popularity among travelers. The sight of the ancient green quarry, glistening under the midday sun, has earned it the esteemed title of Khon Kaen's stunning and novel "Blue Lagoon."

 

Local residents in the vicinity unveil the history of this place, once a mining site leased to entrepreneurs. However, after the lease expired, it transformed into an abandoned quarry until groundwater slowly permeated, creating a captivating green water reservoir. Today, it stands as a remarkable new tourist destination in Khon Kaen.

 

This picturesque location has been captivating the attention of nature-loving tourists. Miss Patchapicha Tithanan, a 43-year-old traveler from Bangkok, expressed her ardent desire to witness the true beauty of the aged limestone quarry, with its exquisite surrounding rocks and the mesmerizing emerald-colored water reservoir.

 

When her friend, a resident of Phu Pha Man District, returned home for a visit, she seized the opportunity to accompany her and explore the wonders of Blue Lagoon together.

 

They captured breathtaking photographs of the enchanting water reservoir and fervently hoped for more tourists to come and admire the awe-inspiring scenery.

 

Meanwhile, Mrs. Samneang Dai Phukhiao, a 57-year-old shop owner in the vicinity, attested to the rising popularity of the Blue Lagoon water reservoir among tourists, particularly during festivals and holidays.

 

She expressed her earnest hope for the relevant authorities and the government to recognize this location as a prominent tourist spot in Phu Pha Man District.

 

Urgent measures, such as installing road signs, should be implemented to guide tourists accurately.

 

This would also provide an opportunity for local residents to showcase and sell their native food and products, thereby contributing to their families' additional income.

In any other country in the world this would be just looked upon as a water filled abandoned quarry, here in Thailand it’s called enchanting and given a status of tourist attraction…no doubt foreigners will be charged a sizeable fee should they want to visit this ‘enchanted’ place…

Comparable to the Thai Grand Canyon I visited once. Totally bland

My guess would be residual ores of copper may be giving the water a green color, given it is an old mining site. It would be interesting to know what pH the water is.

It could also be algae.

Either way, swimming not recommended.

For reference:

Phu Pha Man is 107 kms west of Khon Kaen City. Take Route 12 to Chum Phae and continue beyond to 2nd major set of traffic lights where the road bears right. Take right fork Route 201 to Loei. You will soon enter Phu Pha Man District where you can also visit the Bat Cave (at sunset when millions of the creatures fly out) and just further on Phu Pha Man National Park with its scenic mountains, forests and waterfalls.
