buildings are generally built to withstand this weather.

Quite the opposite, in fact. Many have a wide overhanging roof which offers some protection from the sun, but get a strong wind underneath and off comes the roof. Happened to the house next door to mine. Those few minutes, usually just before a storm as the air pressure changes, can be quite frightening.

No doubt nobody will be held properly accountable for this wholly avoidable tragedy.   Terrible news and sincere sympathies to the distraught families.

  • Still wondering why the same is not said about all the deaths in the States when a Tornado kills many in (flimsy?) houses? My sympathies go to the disctraught families.

  • Shows the quality of builfing and enginenering. This weather is not uncommon, same as the moronic work done is.

What an idiot comment. Who controls the weather?? How was it avoidable? What would you have done? Asked for a Code of Compliance Certificate before sheltering under there?
