Farang Neighbour unfit to drive

Our neighbour is unfit to drive. He has hit our truck twice and just hit the wall in front of his house. He has a health impediment of some sort. Wife่ has told him not to drive or she will call the police as he is a danger to himself and others.

What would you do?

I don’t think I’d do anything if it’s just a neighbor. That’s kind of overstepping boundaries to go over there and tell him what to do.

 

Maybe ask him for damages to your property so friends and family put pressure on him not to drive.

If on friendly terms go and talk to him about it, if not just keep out of his way

Tell his wife to report her concerns to the driver license department. Documenting any damage he has caused will be very helpful when reporting this to authorities. If his wife needs a ride to the driver license department, you can offer to give her a ride. It's admittedly a tough call regarding when to get involved, but disagree with those flatly saying to stay out of it. Someone who is no longer able to operate a motor vehicle safely because of a medical condition or aging is a hazard just like someone driving while intoxicated is a hazard, and people need to get involved when situations like this arise. If the concerns are overblown, worse thing that happens is his driving skills are reassessed unnecessarily. Better safe than sorry.

How old is he? If old why be scared? If a 40yo Thai he might have a gun. A 70yo farang I wouldnt be scared to talk to him. But take lots of photos of damage, write down times and dates.

After my 2nd blackout in February at 78 years old, I simply threw my cars keys in the drawer and quit driving,

 

Fortunately my wife is a good driver, and she is now the designated duty driver.
