An Aussie friend is married to a Thai in Australia, they now want to live in Thailand, he is now here on a 90 day Non o visa for a Thai wife and wants to gain an extension local based on his Thai wife. he understands the ext requirements. but is un-clear what the steps are for him to get married at the Amphur office.

He visited the Amphur office and they told him he had contact the Aussie embassy to have his Aussie marriage translated and certified. does anyone know if this correct? Also he needs to get his passport translated and certified. Normally this can be done by the MFA. Can anyone clarify? what the steps are?

Kind Regards

It's not clear in the OP whether the guy wants to marry again in Thailand (thread subject), or wants his Australian marriage recognized in Thailand (the body of the post). Having a Thai wife should speed up considerably the interactions at the Amphur. Simply decide one or the other, and follow their instructions.

In a similar situation (translation and certification of marriage documents by the MFA) we found it very helpful to rely on an agent.

IMO he can't re-marry, but needs he's Ozzy cert translated as you have said, and then Register it at the Amphur (same as death certs have to be registered if one dies here) so he will be able to get the required KOR 2 every year for a marriage extension. He could try emailing the OZ embassy in BKK, he should also check their site as he may need an appointment.

1. His Embassy in Bkk will attest his Aussie M.C. and his Passport Photo Page

2. Both have to be translated to Thai by a certified translator

3.Further attestation by Thai MFA

4. Take appointment at the District Office for registering foreign marriage.

5. You will get a Kor Ror 22 (from the district office) if successfully registered
