Pickup Truck Crashes into Parked 18-Wheeler, Leaving One Dead and Two Seriously Injured
Pictures from responders. A crash occurred in the early hours of the morning on 7 February, when a pickup truck crashed into the rear of a parked 18-wheeler on Bang Kruai–Sai Noi Road, Nonthaburi, resulting in one fatality and two serious injuries. At approximately 04:50 officers from Bang Bua Thong Police Station were alerted to the incident and rushed to the scene, accompanied by emergency rescue teams from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation and forensic medical staff from the Institute of Forensic Science. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a Ford pickup truck registered in Nonthaburi, its rear loaded with signage materials and fresh flowers, indicating it was likely used for event decoration services. The vehicle had slammed into the back of a Hino 18-wheeler, with the trailer registered in Bangkok and the truck’s cab registered in Ayutthaya. Inside the wrecked pickup, three men were trapped. Rescue workers used hydraulic cutters to extract two seriously injured passengers, while the third victim, seated in the front passenger seat, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Sa-wang the 49-year-old driver of the 18-wheeler, told police that he had parked his vehicle at around 02:00 to wait for a morning delivery at a nearby warehouse. He was resting inside the truck when he was startled by a loud crash and a violent impact at the rear. Stepping out to investigate, he found the pickup truck lodged into his trailer and immediately called emergency services. Preliminary investigations suggest that either the pickup truck driver may have been speeding and failed to notice the parked vehicle in time or alternatively, police suspect the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the high-speed collision. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and will conduct further interviews with the truck driver. The body of the deceased has been transferred to the Institute of Forensic Science for an autopsy. -- 2025-02-08 -
