webfact Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 Prachachat party leader Wan Muhamad Noor Matha was selected as the new House speaker this morning (Tuesday). His candidacy was uncontested, after Move Forward party leader Pita Limjaroenrat nominated him. According to selection procedure, when only one candidate is nominated, they are automatically selected. Wan’s selection, which is yet to be endorsed by His Majesty the King in the form of a Royal Command, will pave the way for the House speaker, in his capacity as the president of the parliament, to call a joint session of the House and Senate to elect a new prime minister. After his selection this morning, Wan, in his brief vision speech to MPs, vowed to perform his duties with impartiality, honesty and transparency, in compliance with the Constitution, laws and parliamentary regulations. #news Full story: https://www.thaipbsworld.com/314049-2/ -- © Copyright Thai PBS 2023-07-04 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. anchadian Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 Junta-appointed senator Somchai Sawaengkarn posted on FB Tues saying "inexperienced" Move Forward has made a wrong move with House Speaker being from another party. He added MFP PM candidate Pita won't be chosen as PM so MFP will end up as opposition party for 4 yrs. https://twitter.com/KhaosodEnglish/status/1676090539249381377 1
david555 Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 So ignoring PT ....., now it could be PT go run his on "way" ? and so dividing the election result
Popular Post dinsdale Posted July 4, 2023 Popular Post Posted July 4, 2023 A good choice and wise decision. Minor party within the coalition. Will never need to vote as the only time this would happen would be with a tied vote in the house and this will never happen with such a massive majority. 2 2

I wouldn't be surprised if Pita becomes PM with only MP votes.

Interesting point to note was that 312 votes for MF's candidate against 103 votes for UTN's candidate. No one from the coalition parties broke rank while 84 from the opposition camp didn't vote for their guy. 1
