What gets me about Pattaya.....There are almost NEVER any meetings or community  input or comments asked for before projects that effect everyone are started...Like the Thepprasit road divider.....

 

Or the beach road walkway....

I can say 100% there was never a single community meeting EVER about Beach Road No comments wanted on how they destroyed beach road..

That is interesting. I didn't know Nua pre barrier. I saw businesses disappearing though. There was a pool shop up near the junction with 3rd. The whole row is derelict now. There used to be a very affordable attorney near the bottom end. Got a will written there for 4k.

 

But, no right into Makro, and then no U turn at the Sukhumvit junction. What do they suggest you do then?

I read somewhere there had been approval of the scheme after canvassing on Thepprasit amongst the businesses. I find it hard to believe. Well, impossible really.

Why?  I take due care when driving.  Been driving and riding for nearly 40 years.  But there is a severe lacking of appropriate warnings, signs, barriers and other safety measures, with a lot of road works in Thailand. Yes, better driving standards for sure are needed. Key word is prevention.

All this chat about Thepprasit and the central reservation overlooks the actual subject of the OP, which is the wreck this woman was involved in. We'll probably (!) never hear the full story, but luckily, half the members of AN appear to have been witnesses, so I'm sure they will be able to set the record straight about what actually happened. Call the first witness! No, on second thoughts, we've heard it all before... She was probably..., 100/1 on she was..., I reckon..., If you ask me..., Maybe..., Could be..., I guess..., Who knows? They can't drive so what do you expect?

A major impact was on the buses getting into Reung Ruen bus station.

Look whether it should be there or not it is and the road was bright enough for her to see ask me it did the job of preventing her from making the U,  stupid design waste of time and material but enough so official could skim off the contract. Guess why the middle is empty?  They aren't finished people my guess they will plant bushes in the middle or is it a drainage system? LOL

Joke what joke!  The joke is on you and the Thai. 

Sukhumvit going south pass Theppasit take a good new at that greenery 2 km that needs to be maintain contracts given out to municipal officiers family even during droughts to keep it beautiful. 

They use this design on Pattaya Nua,  then ripped it all out to widen lanes just before T-21 opened. 

The catch they don't rip out and kill palm trees on Beach road and Jomtien officials want you to believe it all they do is switch them to another location but the new invoiced allow them to skm and skim.

 

Compaigning (move on?  ) T-Shirt where is he today last seen buying sIt's,  dying his hair polishing his Military uniform and medals he never earned. His excuse for all the road work is the contractors are not honoring the time line of the job!  

Anyone can't read between the lines with that excuse is he isn't in charge!  Just another new face settling helpless to do a damn thing except take his share to deposit while everyone suffer. 

This road never had to be path there was never anything wrong with it.

She won't be or probably wasn't the first accident caused by this median strip.

 

Taking your suggestion further, maybe most people shouldn't drive. Nevermind building safely constructed roads - always blame the drivers. They can put barriers anywhere they please because accidents are always the driver's fault - good drivers see everything and never have accidents.

 

In the real world, a great deal of thought and planning goes into building safe roads. They need to be as idiot-proof as possible.

 

In this case, the main problem is that the barrier causes extreme inconvenience where much traffic has to spend a lot longer on the road, trying to find a place to make a U-turn. By increasing time on the road, it increases traffic volume, apart from causing a lot of congestion in areas where u-turns are permitted.

 

The other day I had to ride an extra kilometer or more to get back to a shop I was looking for which I had passed... which took me to the opposite side of the road from the shop I wanted to visit... and then I had to park and cross the road on foot. If not, I would have had to travel a lot further again to find the next u-turn. This will be more danger for predestrians, as there will be a lot more of them crossing the road to visit the shops.

 

This photo is a perfect illustration of how dangerous crossing the road on foot will be. Those ladies on high heels better take care - sandwiched between opposing traffic on a narrow strip.

Why would I know anymore than city hall? It wasn't my idea. But regarding the central reservation itself, I believe the plan is/was to lay cables down it. Another year's work I imagine. What a disaster!

 

What is your take on it all? Do you use Thepprasit? Frequently? How do you find the no right turns virtually the whole length with everybody looking for a place to U turn? And those forced left on joining it then also looking for the next u turn spot.

Yes, lots of cables required. 

 

They're still installing the brackets for the street lighting that will be mounted on the centre median.

The purpose of the divider has nothing to do with Safety then...And has every thing to with cutting the cost and work for laying new cables....Which with-out the divider the cables would have to go underground...

 

The fewer U-turns the better because U-turns mean they would have to put some work in digging up the road for the cables.....

 

So in a nutshell cutting cost and increasing profits has priority over all the users of the road....

What about access? Maintenance? Additional cable laying? Etc etc etc. And the cable companies? Are they going to replace the hundreds of cables that currently are carried up the sides of the road on poles?

 

Whatever the answer to that is, I still say what they've done with the central reservation is unworkable. Welcome to another ghost town created by City Hall.

They're going to have to dig up the road or lay overhead cables via support towers to cross the road to get to customer cable inlets.

 

Why couldn't they have just laid the cables alongside the wonderful new drains? Access hatches all the way down. Easy access. Out of the way. In fact, why don't they do that right now and scrap the stupid central reservation. It's already caused one mash up. How many more?
