Addition, Thanakorn stressed that Gen Prayut wished to avoid escalating national tensions. Emphasizing that Thailand has been working hard to achieve stability over the past 8-9 years, the caretaker prime minister called for a peaceful political climate and progressive movement.

Prayut is dreaming if he thinks this will evolve peacefully, but I'm sure he knows that already, and the tanks have been ordered on standby already

Moreover, Gen Prayut voiced concern over intimidation among some citizens. He said he was apprehensive that such situations could lead to further divisions within the nation and has ordered relevant agencies to monitor and manage the issue closely.

On the plus side he didn't say that "There will not be a coup". Yet.

He's itching to get the band back together.

In which he failed terribly... We all have seen how protests were being handled with watercanons and chemicals, people in jail for section 112, containers, and rubber bullits. For Prayuth the Covid was a gift. so failed agian and progressive movements as we can see this week and today are fake news, as the country will be throwed back again for years.. Shame, Shame Shame

But he is no longer an active general, and his faction is not the flavour of the month with the army.

Yes, but he is the (caretaker) Minster of Defense, so the RTA reports directly to him.

As (caretaker) PM, the Royal Thai Police also report directly to him.

Plus he's got the coup experience.

Well, if the government and its politicians did, what they were told by the voters, then there is absolutely NOTHING they need to be worried about.

The government is executive, the electorate is legislative, i.e. the government and its branches like police and the armed forces are executive help to the government and the government is executing, what voters voted for at the polls.

Or am I misunderstanding something here again - as so often in the past in Thailäääännnn?

One could argue that those in power during that period are directly responsible for the current debacle.
