Just looking at a Deco Family trike.

 

Must admit i would much prefer a gasoline version of these but could not find one.

 

Thinking about going to buy one over the weekend and then read somewhere the Battery might only last 2-3 years 

 

Thought ok that might cost a bit and then after a quick search a new battery is from 17k- 29,500k

Might as well get one of the side car frames for a honda wave as i know you save on fuel with an EV but don't fancy paying that when it dies

the source of that little tidbit would be ?

Father in law just replaced his batteries after 3 and a bit years on a similar type bike bought from Big C.

 

Batteries had swollen during charge and one cracked open

 

4 sealed lead acid batteries cost him just over 4k baht.

Just from searching mind you another poster said 3 and a bit years for 4k on a Big C model so will have a look what other trikes are about

That is not so bad but swollen /cracked batteries is a concern

that wouldn't be a similar bike ... except it might have had 3 wheels.

3-5 years at the Deco web site so the upper limit of about 2-3 years is plausible and a safe bet. Always best to apply a reduction value to those manufacturers claims.

My DECO battery is about 22 months old, and hasn't missed a beat.  Doubt if it degraded much, if at all.

 

I expect many more years out of it, and may even outlast me.

 

Experience wins over the bar stool theories.

For some reason 1200 cycles rings a bell in head.   I get about 90kms per cycle, so 100k+ kms, before any real noticeable degradation, ball park.

disagree, and years means nothing.  It's cycles, and how many kms you put on it, how you charge and maintain.

Say 4 years I wonder how much of a saving would that be compared to gasoline.

 

Best check how much a battery is as say 4 years and a new battery is  say 20k ?

5k a year is not bad but then not sure I would use it that much to make it worthwhile 

 

Still might get one as no alternative yet available.

Have a car,  but use my motorcycle, almost daily, weather permitting, though don't rack up many kms.  22 ish months, and just now knocking on 5k kms.

 

My usual daily ride is < 15 kms; home-park-along the surf-return.
