Climate change threatens Thailand’s tiger conservation efforts, reveals study

The future conservation of tigers within Thailand’s natural habitats confronts a formidable adversary in the form of climate change, according to Jatuporn Buruspat, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Something that is significantly augmenting his concern is the forest fires that relentlessly gnaw away at the territory of these apex predators.

In his remarks offered at the occasion of “Move Forward to Sustainable Tiger Conservation,” conducted to acknowledge Global Tiger Day on July 29, located in the Nakhon Sawan province, Jatuporn expressed approval regarding the country’s efforts in conserving and nurturing its wild tiger populations.

Originating from the St Petersburg Declaration on Tiger Conservation, presented at the International Tiger Forum 2010 in Russia, a worldwide consensus was established amongst 13 countries, one being Thailand, to safeguard and even double the tiger numbers by 2022.

Fires are normally lit by man. Stop blaming cc on everything.

Are forest fires the cause of climate change? About as much as volcanoes. Link please?

As the years and decades pass, and the planet warms there will be increasingly no places on the planet that will be 'safe'.

Nowhere free of mega-fires, no amount of money that will insulate people, torrential rains, flooding, deforestation through whole tree species dying out due to increased summer temperatures and their inability to adapt to these fast enough, mass human migrations that make whats happening now look like weekend increases by tourists, crop failures et large.

Whole areas of the earths food producing areas laid waste.

Wars over potable water.

Nice legacy to leave our kids, theirs, and theirs after them (if you are inclined to believe that man has markedly contributed to the earths warming).

Enjoy your day.

Kids are doing better now than ever.

Perhaps the problem has been caused by rather too many kids......

So man doesnt light fires? Strange comment from someone in Chiang Rai 555

Forests burn better when it is hot, even a child knows that. Your comment is the usual deflection.

The CC cult is ridiculous. Light on facts, heavy on blame game.

When you start calling science a "cult" you know you're out on a limb.

Tell us what proportion of carbon dioxide in the air is caused by fires vs burning fossil fuel in vehicles and to generate electricity and heat.

So tigers are fewer because its hotter and nothing to do with land clearance, man made fires, poaching etc.

You win a gold medal in deflection and bad science.

Forests are reduced because of fires caused by global warming.

Wrong as per usual. Amazing you are so unable to research stuff before posting nonsense about the climate cult.

Agriculture is the Number 1 Cause of Deforestation (~80%)

I never suggested it wasn't. You have a logic disconnect going on here. Meantime, you have not even attempted to explain WHY forest fires are a greater cause of global warming than burning fossil fuels.

It's embarrassing the responses you make. Totally ignoring the facts.

You haven't produced any facts comparing the effects of burning fossil fuels with forest fires on climate change. You're simply a climate change denier trying to deflect from the elephant in the room.

Tigers are just a fraction of the problem. Economic refugeeism is the big one.

Pray tell, what are your scientific qualifications enabling you to judge mine? There's that word judgmental again.

It's pretty simple, our air and oceans are getting warmer. Second Law of Thermodynamics. Resulting in climate change, i.e. more violent storms. Bigger bushfires, check out Australia. First Law of Thermodynamics.

As less than 0.5% of the world's population has any training in the discipline of thermodynamics, much easier to shoot the messenger with dumb#ss comments.

Troll someone else, O Prince of Pontification.

Do they still have the drugged up temple tigers?

Shows how poorly informed much of the general public are about the issues around all aspects of tiger conservation.

Conservationists don't just have to struggle with front line issues but also have to contend with public ignorance on a gigantic scale...which hinders their work even further.

More humans = more crops = less forests + poaching = less wild animals.

Pretty easy to see the problem.

How do you cull the humans to save the animals? That's the main issue.
