We do our best to make it home, sadly the authorities do make it seem a temporary arrangement. I suspect it will get less hospitable in the coming years.

Hard to believe you have been to Thailand.

It depends where you are. If you're driving on the roads, at least in Isaan where I am, then I can think of many words to describe Thai drivers. Not all are allowed on here and none are "friendly". It's one of my great pleasures when I return to the UK. Drivers who look as if they might have passed a test at some point, and don't drive as if they are the only ones who need to go anywhere and treat other traffic like they are slalom poles to weave around.

There are a lot of friendly Thais but I generally find the same in the UK.

Sadly Thailand will never be your home.  It never ever was and never will be.  You apply for a visa every year more than likely.  When you can no longer afford it for any reason you will be shown the door in short order.

I am currently paying £6200 GBP per month for her residential care , this is because she has assets of more than £23500 when her funds are depleted the government will pay . The same care  , if not better in thailand costs 1/3 of this .  We are moving to LOS.     k????

What are you trying to state? 

If you continue to read the posts on the forum that you have linked, it clearly states that care homes can be  2k+ more expensive than those outside of London.

Care homes in the south of the UK are predominately more expensive and the forum seems predominately  referring to specialist care which would class this as more of a nursing home as opposed to a care home which incurs a much greater cost.

When you mix the 2 together your costs are not unsurprising. 

My original point was to state how expensive care homes are in the UK (not how Cheap)

My mother is worried as to what percentage of her house they might claim (Government still failing to commit to an amount)

You have proved how expensive it can get depending on where you live  and if  specialist care is needed ( a registered nurse needing to be on site at all times) 

My mother, albeit not in care but also suffering from dementia, would never ever want to live in Thailand unless she had reached a vegetated position.

I get that you want people to know how expensive it is, and you have, but we are referring to an average cost which even at its minimum is still extremely expensive.

European Union has 27 countries with same rules. If you have National Health Insurance in one it's transferable to any other. You get 100% same services there as locals.

     At the new project we are buying at, the prices run from 6.5 to 10MB, in the average range.  You can find smaller, older homes without a pool for less than 6MB but the growing market for farang buyers is a detached home with a pool.   Take a drive over to the Darkside sometime, visit some of the many new housing projects, and you'll see what I am talking about.

I don't know about the rest of the world, but my retirement home w/24/7 personal care w/benefits  cost minimum of 65k a month ????

 

Any unused is rolled over to the next month, and usual used before that fiscal year ends.  Usually unnecessarily, but adds to my quality of life.

One thing many don’t realize is that these assisted living facilities bump up the prices after people are settled in. In turns into a snowball effect. Your lucky if it stays at the price you heard about!

 

Not sure about the Uk but the private ones in the USA can go up 20% or more at random (with no notice) if more care is needed, and rarely if ever does it go down. They know how hard it is to move people out once they are settled in. Be warned!

 

They don’t like to discharge people however. Do it’s more about attaching assets like homes, etc if they can’t get relatives to sign off. If you do the lawyers come after your assets, usually after the resident passes away.
