Donald Trump is already facing 78 criminal charges across three cases - but this week in Georgia, he could be hit with one he has never seen before: racketeering.

Local prosecutors in Fulton County have been investigating the efforts to overturn Mr Trump's defeat in the closely-contested state in the 2020 election.

US media reports suggest the district attorney's office could be pursuing racketeering charges that implicate several people in a sprawling election subversion conspiracy, with Mr Trump as the alleged ringleader.

If it does, it would be indicting a former American president on charges once used to convict mob bosses like John Gotti and Vincent Gigante.

Organised criminal activity in the US is routinely prosecuted under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (Rico) Act.

Rico laws help prosecutors connect the dots between underlings who broke laws and those who gave them marching orders.

More than 30 US states have implemented their own versions of the federal government's Rico Act and Georgia's adaptation is broader in scope than most.

Considering how many courts he's seen, racketeering would seem to be an appropriate charge.  Let's hope he gets the grand slam.

Not being American it is amusing and many find UK situation a joke.

You say he should get the slam so are you a minority.

Trump has a reasonable chance to get off on these charges due to a hung jury. Its the NYC and DC juries that are the risks for him.

But, don't celebrate too much for today's news, this is just the beginning.

Trevian Kutti is an interesting character in this rogues gallery:

Allegedly, she threatened a Georgia election worker with arrest, if the election worker didn't provide a false confession of voter fraud. Interestingly, she is a minion of Kanye West, and could implicate Mr. West if she flips. Because somebody had to order Ms. Kutti to threaten the election worker.

RICO charge with 19 defendants named. Sentencing on this charge only, 5 year MINIMUM and 20 year maximum when convicted.

One or more of which now have very good cause to sing like a canary.
