No family resorts with kids running everywhere thanks

The family aspect killed the Ha Long Bay cruise for me after a quick look on Youtube.

I was going to float down the Amazon next year, but it too looks full of bonding families. Yuck.

1-  On Agoda or Booking.com, guest reviews of 7 and above (and there should be a large number of reviews, not just a few).

2-  Near where I want to be, and I double check this with Google Maps Street View, where I can see the actual surroundings and distance to shops, etc.

3-  In my price range (you can enter it when searching).

4-  Pictures of hotel and my chosen room category are nice.

5-  Plus points:  Balcony, microwave, bathtub, smart TV in room.

If I am traveling for leisure , I always get a pool. It is a good time filler and provides some entertainment.

The rest is mostly price

I went to hotel yesterday, had hookers on the top floor, maybe a good idea

Funny, in most of the Thai hotels, the hookers located deep downstairs.

You'd be surprised. I once stayed in a Sheraton in New York with threadbare towels and a filthy windowsill.

Once my experience in L.A., blood stains in the bedsheets.

- Good location (beach, attractions, or nice views/scenery).

- Nice breakfast.

- Comfortable beds.

- Pool is a must.

- Decent room size.

5000 a night is my budget.

comfortable bed, good shower with hot water, airconditioning, no noise and no smell, room size doesnt really matter as long as the hotel is in an area you want to be in

A bed

cable with adult movies pay per view

weird hairs on sheets

stained sheets

vibrating coin operated bed

mirror on ceiling

dead body under bed

mini bar

bible

baby soaps

no balcony--u know why

You can probably just stay home and have all of that. No need to pay.

Of primary importance for me, an ensuite bathroom with a "walk under" shower. Not a bath or shower unit above a bath. Why? Several years ago whilst on holiday in Chiang Mai, I slipped in the bath whilst using an overhead shower unit, the hotel had no slip mats. I crashed down onto the bath edge, breaking 3 ribs and puncturing my right lung, resulting in 2 weeks hospitalisation in Chiang Mai (4 days in ICU). At my age now, getting into and out of a bath is extremely difficult. Here in Cambodia where I now live, my apartment has 2 ensuite bathrooms both with "walk under" showers - great!

What do you look for in a hotel?

I suppose one that allows me to bring back 10,000 women over the next 16 years....lol

suppose you could go to the temple and make merit by offering a donation aka $$$$

I am not in favor of donating to any religious organization, It only encourages them to want more.

Lack of mold. Which is hard to find. Older solid place with a good fan and ventilation.  Maybe a new place with polished floors instead of tiles. Tiles usually have mold growing under neath. I'm alleregic.

Just give me a good old bungalow and i will be happy.

The first time I came here I stayed on top of a go go bar on Soi 8 in Pattaya!  That lasted 3 days  , until i found a much quieter place off 2nd Rd. Near soi 13.

I look for centrally located hotels with quiet rooms! 3- 4 stars , price range

2200 bht or less! Swimming pools and a good wifi are essential!

For Bangkok

Location

High rise with option to pay more to get high floor

Pool long enough for a weak swimmer such as myself to do proper laps

Top sheet instead of doona suitable for a Chicago winter

Fridge that’s not a minibar crammed with stuff I’ll never buy

Ideally, a kitchenette

Aircon that can be controlled

Sizeable room safe

Under 5,000 baht per night, but I’d pay more for something that checks all the above boxes

A quiet night time location and free parking are my top 2.

E.g, April Suites in Pattaya.

Budget between 800 - 1500 per night inclusive.

Obviously clean with good housekeeping and staff.

Sad but true, I do avoid hotels that have Chinese and Indian Bus package tourists!

Anyway, I couple of hotels I have stayed, we got Vip passes to avoid those groups at the breakfest, which can be quite challenging sometimes when crowded.

It is as bad as ending up in the middle of youropeen package turists in Spain

Fantastic, and not only UK tourists, it is all of them.
