On August 16th, Pol. Lt. Gen. Damrong Sakdidej Kritpraphas, Chief of the Royal Thai Police (RTP), provided details about the ongoing process of appointing a new Commissioner-General of the RTP during the caretaker period.

He affirmed that the decision remains within the framework of a Cabinet meeting scheduled for the end of August, reported Daily News.

In response to queries regarding the caretaker government's authority to make this appointment, Pol. Lt. Gen. Damrong clarified that as long as the caretaker government is still in place and within the time frame, it has the power to proceed.

When asked if there would be a violation of Section 157 of the Constitution if the appointment is delayed until after the Prime Minister's term ends, Pol. Lt. Gen. Damrong stated that the situation is still in progress and will become clearer within a few days.

Regarding concerns about a potential delay in the appointment process, Pol. Lt. Gen. Damrong refrained from giving a definitive answer due to the impending Cabinet meeting in August.

He expressed confidence in timely proceedings but noted that the Prime Minister's discretion is pivotal. A definitive answer is expected by the end of this month.

Disband the RTP, start over again, all officers to be thoroughly investigated for unusual wealth, anyone who bought their positions will be eliminated from consideration. Appoint a citizen based review board, and have regular inspections of officer ranks, merit only consideration for advancement. Police are to enforce laws daily, especially road safety, no more hanging out in air conditioned shacks doing nothing.

Pretty much Move Forward's plan.

Worked out well that didn't it?

The RTP has the universal presence and "reach" which is needed to hold down a potentially hostile population; which the army lacks. Whether they have the stomach, training and leadership to do so is perhaps not so guaranteed...

I doubt that the ten people left over constitute a viable police farce.

The MFP numbers are growing at each election, and with PT going against their own voters, you can expect that number to grow again next time. The MFP are inevitable, time will fix things, eventually the dinosaurs will become extinct.

Whilst your logic is unanswerable, and I agree that the progressive movement's support will continue to grow, this unholy alliance see that as a bridge to be crossed four years down the road.

Four years for Pheu Thai to think that they can recover their support ( unlikely) and 4 years for those that are born to rule to emasculate the progressive movement ( they will try). They will be banking on the fact that they will be in the driving seat for the appointment of the new Senate, and recasting it's powers.
