A 29 year old woman named Supapan was angered when she returned home to find her motorcycle damaged but was pleasantly surprised to discover a letter of responsibility from a local police officer. His sincere gesture has drawn public praise and demonstrated a shining example of accountability within the police force.

The incident occurred at a convenience store opposite the district office of Sainoi, Nonthaburi. Supapan, who works at a department store in Bang Yai, found her motorcycle had been damaged when she returned from work on August 18.

The right mirror was broken, the left indicator light shattered, and scratches marred the front windshield. A closer inspection revealed a note slipped into the storage compartment.

“I am officer Thakdanai from Sainoi Police Station. My police motorcycle fell onto yours, breaking the mirror and indicator light. I will compensate for the damages. Please contact this number or LINE account.”

that's a new one, we are used to the "good/honest" taxi & tuk tuk drivers bringing back bags fill of cash and/or jewellery

Not sure why this is NEWS, because in any civilised country it would be expected.

"demonstrated a shining example of accountability within the police force." ????????????????????????????

I am guessing, but someone correct me if I am wrong that in "civilized country" the repairs would not come out of police officer's pocket, but would be covered by either police or insurance.

In the West every time a car gets damaged in a parking lot or on the street you think that the person causing the damage leaves their details behind so you can be compensated? Ha!

the officer was reimbursed.

How did the motorcycle rally ? Odds on him being pished up ?

An article making news out of a police officer being honest sorely highlights the how much of an outlier such behaviour is.

…. yes, a negative opinion of Thai police… no I won’t go back to where I came from if I hate it here so much…  & no I don’t hate it here at all, I just have some negative observations as does anyone else… ( that should get rid of some trolls !)

Would he have left the note if it was obviously a farang owned vehicle ?

Quite possibly someone witnessed the incident, so no getting away with it.

Officer Thakdanai from Sainoi Police Station should be commended. It was the right thing to do, and something that a decent person with a kind heart and good upbringing would do. Kudos to him.

Taking responsibility for ones actions is a kind of glue that keeps us civilized and humane.

Why the need to name the person!

I commend the officer.  And yes this form of behavior should be expected in any country.  Unfortunately there are many people who will just leave as long as no one sees them

Depends if said officer was on duty at the time of the accident, or he has personal insurance cover.

Right!

Well done. You should be promoted.

Guess it prevented him having a breathalizer

This story is a sad testament to people's vanishing integrity around the world.

This shouldn't be news.

A pity some snide commentators can't take this at face value. There are good policemen in Thailand.
