webfact Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 BANGKOK, Aug 24 (TNA) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has set an ambitious target to lure one million tourists from Hong Kong to Thailand in 2024. Ms. Pornmon Jansri, Director of TAT's Hong Kong Office revealed that Hong Kong tourists are considered a high-potential market, especially among couples looking to tie the knot. Therefore, TAT is planning marketing campaigns to encourage this group to travel to Thailand for destination weddings, given the diverse range of tourist attractions, especially beaches and seaside venues. “Each year, there are approximately 50,000 couples from Hong Kong who choose to get married, with about 10% of them opting for destination weddings abroad, especially the younger generation. These are travelers with high spending power who seek convenience and are willing to invest in hassle-free wedding experiences. Thailand offers a competitive advantage in this regard, as it provides a wide range of wedding venues and streamlined wedding planning compared to Hong Kong, where lengthy queues for registration and hotel bookings can be a common hassle, along with high costs,” she explained. keith101 Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 As usual the TAT has completely overdone their numbers and will be extremely lucky to get 25% IMO 1 1

connda Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 My guess? The world will go back into Covid Lockdown Mode by October and tourism as well as "non-essential" mom & pop and small business will be decimated by this time next year. Tourism will be back in the trash-bin once more. Those who wish to rule the world know how to make the common-folk dance to their tune. 2
pomchop Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 Yep i bet all those hong kong gals are eager to have a honeymoon in pattaya where their new husband will be checking out all the scantily clad young ladies who will find him to be a handsome man while he is thinking why in the world did i get married. 2
Popular Post Ombra Posted August 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 24, 2023 As the population of Hong Kong is only 7.5 million and as 1.5 million of those are over 65, this seems a bit optimistic. 1 1 1

Does someone at TAT throw a dart at a map of the world, then say that's the next victims. 2
SoilSpoil Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 That's about 14% of their population, babies and aged people included. That's quite a number. 1

Wonder, if they know at the TAT how to search on Google. Then they would know that the total population of Hong Kong (incl. toddlers and grannies) is less than 7.5 million... - How do they plan to lure 1 out of seven to Thailand? (They do have shrimps in Hong Kong, so offering free shrimp cocktails won't be enough...) What's next, '1 million tourists from both, Macau, and Bhutan'? 1

Wonder if they looked at recent arrivals, 76k in June, and 2019 when they attracted 820k.
retarius Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 I'm so glad. If TAT aims for them, they'll come. Pretty soon TAT will have targets for the whole world.....let's see we've had targets for Indians, Chinese, Russians, Muslims and now Hongers. I feel really economically secure knowing that TAT is doing all this accurate forecasting.
newnative Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 Just another 'make work' useless proposal in the vein of 'Look Ma, I'm working! Hard!' They need these to try to justify the obscenely huge budget increase they want for next year, going from 3.25 billion baht to 5 billion baht. Breathtaking in its audacity.

Not too much of a stretch to believe they can get to 1,000,000 with some targeted marketing and cajoling the airlines to offer up more seats. They mention a limited flight schedule coming back from Covid as a hurdle. Once the flights resume a full schedule, I hope they get there. Anyone know if HK is visa exempt or visa on arrival? 1
