Cycle racing v Formula 1

Featured Replies

How many cars are there in Le Tour de France, compared to Formula 1?

my understanding is that in Formula 1 there are 22, plus a Safety Car.
I would love to cycle on closed roads, but not when there are more cars following me than a Formula 1 race.

How does Formula 1 manage without camera motorbikes?

LOTS of fixed position cameras with very highly skilled operators. Spider cams, line cams and at least one heli-cam.

A motorbike wouldn't stand a chance keeping up with an F1 car.

EDIT: Oh, and don't forget several onboard cameras attached to every car, plus helmet cams.

There's certainly more overtaking in the cycle race, and a lot fewer spoilt pr*cks!

I cycle raced on the Monaco F1 circuit in the 1980s.

In the last Grand Prix in the Netherlands there were 86 overtaking manoeuvres in one lap, a new record.  GP drivers deserve every penny they get, considering the risks. And there's a lot more drugs in cycling. I love both.

There's certainly a lot more drug testing in professional cycling.

There are 20 cars in a formula 1 race.

The safety car only comes out when the speed needs to be controlled due to an incident.
