Thaksin Shinawatra, who is currently serving a prison sentence, underwent surgery last week and is in recovery, according to his youngest daughter Paetongtarn today (Tuesday).

 

She declined to disclose any other details, saying she would consult with his doctors who would be the best people to explain the reason for the operation.

 

Thaksin has been receiving medical treatment at the Police Hospital for almost a month, after being sentenced on three corruption convictions. His eight-year prison time was commuted to one year by HM the King.

 

Paetongtarn said Thaksin’s blood pressure has been fluctuating on a daily basis.

 

Asked when her father will be discharged from hospital, she said she does not know. “I am not sure how long he will stay in the hospital, given the fact that he had an operation just last week,” she said.

When one is in ones seventies, any surgery, particularly if it involves a general anaesthetic, is serious. Especially if high blood pressure is involved.

A SENIOR doctor at Police Hospital confirmed Tuesday afternoon (Sep. 19) that de facto Pheu Thai leader Thaksin Shinawatra did undergo a surgery last week after his daughter Paetongtarn Shinawatra mentioned it earlier in the day, Naewna newspaper said.

 

Pol. Lt. Gen. Sophonrat Singhajaru, chief medical officer at Police Hospital, said Thaksin, who came back to Thailand on Aug. 22 and after spending barely half a day at a nursing unit in the premises of the prison was rushed to the hospital, needed a surgery due to many symptoms and reasons.

 

He added that Thaksin is now in safe condition and is gradually improving.

Thaksin Is Recovering After Surgery, Says His Daughter

 

 

BANGKOK, (TNA) – Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is recovering after undergoing surgery last week, says his daughter Patongtarn Shinawatra, the head of the Pheu Thai family.

However, she refrained from providing detailed information and emphasized that it’s better for the doctors to communicate about it. His blood pressure fluctuates from day to day, and it’s uncertain how long he will need to stay in the hospital.

 

No request for parole has been made, she added. Thaksin is serving the one-year jail term, commuted from eight years on charges of abuse of power and conflicts of interest during his time in power.
