How stupid is this?

Realistically - its all a bit of a mishmash...  no one site or one single method or booking is consistently better priced than the other...

This is more likely..... for a while I thought I had hit on a big secret of best price by going through Google Maps to book with Agoda, but on closer inspection some T&Cs varied.

After having read all the replies I am surprised that not one has mentioned the quality of the mattress provided for there 550 or 950 per night accomadation .

I have taken note that in most hotels etc in Thailand  have had a rock hard mattress to give you a sleepless night for your money .

2000 - 3000 baht/night does not guarantee a soft mattress in Thailand. Thais are used to hard mattresses.

We've even had Thai relatives visiting from other towns who have rejected the bed, preferring the floor. Scared of falling out, apparently.

Even more reason to mention the comfort of the beds for the money .

Thank you for your reply

The good thing is that there are many choices for booking hotels....but no matter which one you choose if you fail to carefully read the terms and conditions before you hit the button you may well end up with a non refundable room or some other "surprise"....

I have personally found agoda to consistently have the best prices particularly in Asia.

I never book an Agoda room unless at the bottom it says PAY NOTHING TODAY and carefully read what the payment terms are stated.  Never had a problem.  Never had a surprise.

Up to you.

what was the official time and do i get a boom boom discount coupon for posting about it?

At my age, I have trouble remembering what I had for last night's dinner.

Haven't heard of boom boom discounts on Loi Kroh or Jet Yod roads.

Another poster who likes to lure me off topic, I seem to attract them like flies to honey.

It is more and more enforced. Because residents like me, who live in a condominium, don't want tourists which should stay in hotels.

Our condominium management and security doesn't enforce the rules all the time, but they get better at it, because more and more of the people who actually live there complain.

And that is a trend all over the world.

The condo management not allowing short term rentals is a civil law issue not a criminal law issue.  I am saying that the regulation/law against short term rentals is not being enforced.  Nobody (with a couple high profile exceptions) is getting arrested for short term rentals, although they may face fines or other contractual remedies from the condo management.

Buy a cheap PC if you have a Mac. As they can apparently see if it's a Mac and automatically it increases the price.

Mine is a 2017 iMac do I get an age discount

Used Agoda website since it's inception.  Never had a problem.  User error I suspect...maybe it is an issue with your dial up modem?

First time I have had a problem on Agoda, went to booking.com, no problem.

I have NT WiFi on a new HP laptop, smartypants.

So a perfect record is a one in a million or less?

I usually compare prices and find booking directly with the hotel is usually my best option.

Always for me too.

It certainly makes sense to 'shop around'... and check different options off against each other.

I've just paid 12,000 for 3 nights through agoda (hotel in Thailand) when purchasing from outside of Thailand, the same hotel (Wife checking online (from within Thailand) was 5000 baht more...  They couldn't (wouldn't) compete with Agoda pricing.

IF the prices are similar, I believe we may get a better room (of same tier) if booking direct with the hotel.

I never call the hotels, I just use their websites. Prices are generally similar direct or through a booking site.

I never seem to get nice round numbers like that either...

My price point is 500-800 baht/night.

This was your first and BIGGEST mistake, my friend.

4000 Baht should have been your minimum amount for a room for the night... Unless... You wanted a room in the manger, Biblically speaking.

Personally, I have rarely stayed in a room that cheap.

One time, many moons ago, I stayed in a room that cheap at the YMCA in Honolulu... It was as I had expected.

My advice to you, Sir, is to stop paying money for your subscription to UTUBE, and then save these dimes so that you can, once per year, splurge on a quality holiday with decent accommodation.

Personally, I prefer the Penninsula, either in HK, or elsewhere.

Just, please, don't gripe about ANYTHING when you are not even paying the fair price for a flophouse in most countries.

For some reason, you seem to expect premium service at flophouse prices.

But then, as you have also told us, you expect to get your toenails cut for free, while the woman who loves you... worships the rays from your rear end...

Yes.

You DID actually say this.

I think you used the word... WORSHIP.

So, anyway, I think that if you want a first class holiday, then you should be willing to pay for it.

Or, are you not only a benchworker, but a backpacker, too?

I haven't heard so much complaining in my life, over nothing, since OddJob got cheated at golphing.

Money talks.

Nobody walks.

What might happen to you if you ever needed to visit the BIG APPLE?

Nobody, but, nobody, would entertain your complaints there... maybe.

5000 Baht for a cheap room.

And no free pedicure, too!

Solly,  but nobody wants to pay more then 3000 THB now for room in Bangkok 5 star hotel. Because in Dubai, Qatar or Abu Dhabi you get at that price. Solly.

When something is to hard to understand for the nimble, people prefer the easy way out and squirm "Oh nonsense-nonsense". No hard feelings mate, I understand.

But when it is unsubstantiated nonsense then it's the correct response. No hard feelings mate.

They used to say similar rubbish as you in the middle ages, to those who rightfully claimed the earth was round and not flat.

Excuse me but... I know that you are not a hillbilly.

So, you still can't find a soft bed in Thailand?

And then, you make the ridiculous claim that Thai people are afraid of falling out of bed?

Didn't any of your teachers ever teach you about the RISKS of making such blanket statements?

Maybe this is why you have been, throughout your life, relegated to just benchwork, instead of more meaningful theoretical work. Or, was it the mathematics that kept you behind?

The thing is, Sir, that Thailand is a very big country. And, if you are willing to pay, there are plenty of soft mattresses, and enough for you.

You just gotta pay for what you want.

In my opinion, this is sort of the problem with chemists like you who come to Asia later in life. You come here for a pedicure, but you are totally unable to assimilate in any meaningful way.

You just want a young thing to worship the rays from your behind, unquestionably.

And... You call your kind of objectification of women, not just Thai women,... LOVE.

Go try your tricks in Taiwan, these days, Baby, now that the living standard is so high, and see just how far you get...

Most young things in Taiwan, even 45-year-olds, would not give you, a guy 75, the time of day. They would snicker, and snicker, for sure.

And, concerning a pedicure, it might cost you more than the price of your suoer-cheap holiday hotel, with your hard bed...

I just hope that you don't fall out of bed, while tossing and turning reading this comment....

Maybe you should have practiced sleeping on benches, while doing your benchwork, before arriving here....

Ok. Thank you for your input.

I mean you could have provided a link to back up your claim but no, some weird jibe about the middle ages will do instead, righty ho.

Are you talking War-discount prices?

Peninsula BKK will run you USD500 per night...

HK will be higher.

This chemist wants to get premium service at backpacker rates.

Never Happen!

The premium hotels with supersoft mattresses, with Thai people falling out of them, charge a premium.

But, seriously, Man.... Have you EVER, in all your born days, ever encountered anyone who was afraid of falling out of bed?

Sure.

In heavy seas.

If you don't hold on tight,

You will definitely get thrown from your bunk.

With a thud...
