On October 20, 2023, a devastating case of fraud came to light in Saraburi, Thailand. Klaew, an 85-year-old woman, was deceived by a close neighbour, resulting in a loss of over 6 million baht from her bank account.

The incident unfolded after Klaew sold her land, depositing the proceeds into her account. The cunning neighbour tricked her into moving her bank account to another branch and obtained her ATM card, reported Siam Rath.

Over the course of a year, the fraudster discreetly withdrew all the money, totaling 5.5 million baht. Klaew, distraught upon discovering the theft, reported the incident to the police. The suspect was imprisoned for a mere 45 days and continued to intimidate Klaew after release.

Palita, Klaew’s 59-year-old daughter-in-law, sought to borrow money and uncovered the scam. Klaew, faced with the painful reality of her losses, has been left in a state of shock and despair.

The family’s ordeal highlights the vulnerability of the elderly to financial crimes and underscores the need for heightened community vigilance and stronger legal protections.

Take the neighbours land give it to her!

Take the neighbour's everything and give it to her, and then throw said neighbour in chokey for a few years.

The only thing being, said neighbour is probably 'rich', and in Thai society the rich seem to get a pass where justice is concerned.
