Prubangboy
Like most Americans, I never think of Canada one iota -even less so since Bachman Turner Overdrive had their acrimonious split. I have been to Vancouver and Montreal. Nice 3 day towns (at the outside) with tremendous bagels. And Nova Scotia, which makes Maine look shabby. Net Impression: Socialist Ohio with one tenth the black people. Def. heavily blah (the no black people problem), but the locals are smarter than Americans. I'd retire there if I could, since Canada is like the dull milk of magnesia antidote to Trumpism. If a one bedroom apartment cost $500 in Toronto and you could date Thai transplants on a budget, would you? 1 2 3

UK, Ireland, Norway, Iceland, Sweden, Finland and numerous other countries all have worst weather than Canada? Yeah, I don't think so. I grew up in Yugoslavia before I moved to Canada. In your case, based on your posting history, you shouldn't overthink it. Just move back to Canada and you can fly out of there a month or two each year. Staying in any one place all the time is boring.

I just like to keep things a bit realistic. There are plenty of things that are wrong with Canada, but for some reason weather and healthcare come up here a lot and that is simply not the true.

Based on your posting history, you seem to be agonizing over the decision to move back. And also seems like you are highly impressionable to comments from people on here. Not sure why you are defending Canada's climate. It can be rather harsh. But then again, some people don't like tropical climates either. Healthcare is a major consideration to move back as you won't have to deal with the issues of private healthcare. If you have some money in your pocket, you can fly out of wherever you live a month or two each year and add a bit of excitement to your life. swerve
Each to his own. The weather in Thailand is perfect for me. I live here fan only/ no aircon. You won't find a $500 per month apartment in Toronto. Boring, politically correct, expensive, housing hard to find, and bad weather are common complaints about Canada. Good food, safe, free schooling for kids, outdoor activities, mostly free healthcare (maybe long wait times), and can make money are the upsides.

Popular Post Hanaguma
Cost of housing in major cities is criminal- try finding a house for under a million dollars, even a one bedroom apartment for $2,500 in Toronto. Inflation has made prices skyrocket, especially anything that involves service. Restaurants and even fast food? Ten bucks for a basic burger set. Twenty for a souvlaki lunch. And the weather DOES blow. Perhaps 4 months of the year are tolerable. Dreary winters with sunrise at 830am and sunset at 400pm, no thank you. Health care is in ruins, wait times for any procedure are measured in months. The only positive is that we can always go to the US if we want and can afford to pay for treatment. 1 1

Banana7
Latest market rate from rentals.ca is $2,700 a month for a one bedroom apartment in downtown Toronto. Winters are depressing. Sometimes 2-3 weeks with no sun. Forget about finding a decent looking woman over 45, most will be 10-30 KG overweight. Currently there are lots un-housed immigrants in Toronto living on the streets and in public parks. The issue is that government allowed 500,000 immigrants in the country and they can settle wherever they want. Many are refugees, without sufficient funds to live in Toronto. Many new immigrants want to live in Toronto because it's a big city, and has virtually every ethnicity in the world. This massive influx has also affected government services, especially medical care, which is free and run by the government. Lots of other issues in Toronto. Popular Post Northstar1
As far as health care goes, no one dies on the streets in Canada. patients with acute health issues are given priority and given medical treatment asap. This is fact! yes things are getting expensive, but much less than some other countries. it’s expensive everywhere, sorry to inform you. just another broke expat that doesn’t have the financial means to stay in Canada. never hear of people with money complaining about their homeland! don’t like the winter? Simply jump on a plane like most retirees (WITH MONEY) and fly to a destination of your choice. Why stay there if you don’t like the winter? No money? best wishes as you get older and can’t get health insurance. another go fund me in the works! enjoy your rice soup! 2 2
