For those with a BYD Sealion 7, what have you decided to do as far as the dash-cam is concerned?

It looks like a lot of hardware is missing, even the micro-SD card slot, presumably the cable, too....... software?

I really like the fully integrated system BYD left in the Seal to do an OEM like install - why on earth they went backwards on the dash-cam in Thailand is another BYD enigma.

the byd salesperson said that an integrated solution, similar to the one for the byd seal, will be available. however, they couldn't give me a specific date, so i decided not to wait and i went with the 70mai a510 with a rear camera. so far, so good ...

https://youtu.be/ogkObryJP8E?si=WejHdG6BzAk14Bdm

since the field of view in the interior rearview mirror is very limited, a sinjet camera could also be an alternative ...

Do you have the handy USB port behind the rear view mirror ?

On the 2025 Seal apparently the dash cam and cable is missing but it has the USB port, so that seems like the way BYD are going.

I have the Sinjet LED mirror/camera since Dec 2023 and very happy with it.

Mine was fit by a guy in Bangkok who had the first kit only for the Seal, he now has kits for many EV’s and a choice of 3 different kits )

BYD includes the window film as part of their promotion package - they call it XUV-MAX Ceramic. What is your impression - is this the bottom drawer quality of films as freebee?  The 'ceramic' moniker should imply it's not just cheap painted film, but the ceramic film with sputtering technology.

Does it make sense to pay big bucks extra for a brand product for what could just be a marketing plot? I paid THB 32,500 for Lamina DigitalBoost on the Seal - which does give a good compromise for light inside/dark outside. but at a hefty premium.

I think it's all the same.  I bought the cheapest from a specialist, I think I paid 6-8,000 baht.  I'm very happy with it.

i chose to apply the free window film offered by byd on my sealion 7. the windshield has 40%, all side windows 60%, and the rear window and roof 80%.

for me personally, the side windows with 60% are too dark at dusk and during the night. although i rarely drive in the evening / night, i’m considering changing the 2 front side windows to 40%.

i'm not an expert on window film (this is my first car with it!), but the heat protection effect on the windshield doesn’t impress me at all ...

Maybe this is true, but the marketing literature of more expensive films make a reasonable claim: Cheap film - which is essentially painted polyester - will absorb light and turn it into heat, conversely, the more expensive films with nano particles reflect some of the light back, reducing light absorption, hence transfer less heat into the car........how much is reflected and how much that lowers that the temperature is anybody's guess.

Well, there is always per-conditioning via the app - except, I almost always remember to precondition the car when I walk up to it, or after I open the door and burn my bum on the hot seat.

I can't say I find it uncomfortable or overly hot.  IMHO, money on film is dead money, an expensive film doesn't add any more value to the car than a cheap film when you come to resale and I'm not sure I could tell the difference either.  I'd rather spend the extra 25,000 baht on another holiday.

I tint all round at 40% cut, and leave the roof alone as it's already special glass and no problem, I can't feel any heat on the top of my head, which sadly has a lot less insulation (hair) than my vanity would appreciate

It would be interesting to compare 2 identical cars side by side and measure glass and inside temperatures.  We could do that remotely, park at the same compass angle on the level, at the same time of day and measure temperatures at  the same time, if anyone else has a seal with 40% cut and an expensive film.

So, the moobahn cat has adopted us ever since, around 3 years ago, it came meowing to our door and i gave it some rice and tuna .

That has developed into buying bags of dry cat food and those sachets of “ jelly “ , yes I am a soft touch !

He ( Lucky ) will happily sleep in the house all day and lets us know when he is hungry, also gets a little grumpy if the correct ratio of jelly/dry stuff isn’t acceptable ! But he does use the makeshift cat litter tray I made which keeps the neighbours relatively happy.

Anyway it is all good, the wife and 2 kids love him so …… happy wife ( + kids ) = happy life .

We kick him out at night time and he doesn’t seem too bothered about this as he has a girlfriend who comes around for a feed most days.

Recently he has taken to sleeping on the car roof waiting for us to wake up, + breakfast of course !.

Being a glass roof am not too worried about this but concerned about the paintwork as he gets up and down .

Seems like I read somewhere that cats don’t like plastic bottles filled with water and have indeed seen a few on garden walls so, being an inexpensive solution, i gave it a try.

This morning.

Back to the drawing board !!

Consider yourself lucky - with this grumpy guy around, rats will nest in the neighbor's car.........

As for cats on cars - they scratch the paint when they get down from the car, now I wonder whether the ceramic coating will keep the scratch marks from going through the clear coat?

Had a look and didn’t see any scratches but it does need washing !!

Next step is tie a few of these together

if you're driving a long distance and need to charge your electric car, and there's a byd reversharger along the way,

do you use it or do you prefer other charging stations? what has your experience been like with byd reversharger?

thanks a lot for your feedback, motdaeng

When BYD had the free charging promotion ( Aug 24 to Jan 25 ) i used nothing but Revershargers for 5 months at BYD dealers and Bangchak pumps.

After the promotion ended if you had used their chargers sufficiently you would get a discount of up to 5.8 baht per kWh until June 25. ( usual price 8 baht per kWh )

Unfortunately most, if not all, of the dealers are not eligible for the promotion and not so many Bangchak pumps either in my location.

In short I would use a ReverSharger if i needed a charge on a long trip irrespective of the price and have the app available for use, but tend to use EV Station Pluz primarily followed by PEA Volta then ReverSharger and a couple of others would then be next on the list purely by numbers available.

A popular poster on here used ReverSharger on a road trip siting the BYD lounge for coffee and some snacks as an incentive.

In my case i have never paid for charging at a ReverSharger and would have to use my U.K. credit card or put some money in the wallet in the app.

I find EV Station Pluz better for payment ( straight from my BKK bank account via debit card ) or PEA Volta ( have plenty of money in wallet already ) or even EleXA where i can pay after charging via QR code without loading up a wallet .

Short answer:

Would use Rever if necessary but prefer others because of availability and payment method.

Think the cat probably likes the warmth of the roof, so replace that warmth with another warmth. Get a cat bed, put it on the car roof, when the cat gets used to it, move the bed. 🙂

Posted

My cat likes to get on the roof of my Seal too. My car is wrapped and it has scratched the wrap, it’s softer than paint.

I’m fortunate that my house has integral garage, so we try to keep the cat out of it and the electric door closed.

I also bought some cheap car covers in Lazada, the cheap ones are fairly light and easy to put on and take off and put in the trunk by one person. About 300 baht I think.

Long Trips I only stop at BYD Dealerships:

Plug and Charge: plug in and it starts charging.

24 hours to pay: SCB froze my account while on a trip but sent me messages saying that that I was over the limit on my account and to change the limit at an ATM (they had changed my limit to zero) I was able to charge my car and pay the next day after I called the bank to ask them WTF

You can see the chargers on the app to see if they are working/available

As you have to register your car with the app they can only be used by BYD owners and therefore more likely to be free

8 Baht rather than the usual 7 Baht means that they are less popular and therefore more likely to be free

Fast Charging

Never found one not working and if you needed help you can ask in the dealership.

I used the ReverSharger at BYD Mukdahan, then tried to use one in Pattaya, but it wanted my Tax Invoice Number (which I don't have) so that was a very frustrating fail.

We were in Pattaya for my wife's operation, which was being performed when the earthquake struck and the hospital was evacuated. Patients on beds, in wheel chairs etc all rolled out the front door with doctors, nurses and staff. I eventually got up to the operating rooms and found a nurse had stayed with my wife all the time even after the drs etc evacuated the building.

I tried a charger in Jontien beach, but that didn't work, so then went to the ReverScharger, so after that wouldn't let me charge without my Tax File Number, I drove to a PTT charger and had no luck there as well.

All this plus the total road gridlock in Pattaya as was school holidays.

Stayed in Pattaya a couple of days for wifey to recover, then back to the PTT garage to try and charge again, this time using wife's smartphone. No go. So it seems it was broken.

Talked to a guy charging beside me and he said we could use his charger as he only had 10 mins. to go. So he finished charging, but we couldn't charge and he showed us that someone had booked the charger (evidently you can book a charger ahead of your travels). So they didn't show up and the charger became free after about 5 mins. into the charge time.

Bit frustrating but still learning.

I suppose that means for the wifey and I we have to register in the app on both our phones?

We're off to Mukdahan today to change the red number plate, so I'll try to charge at BYD using my phone and if not get help from BYD Muk.

As an aside: I wasn't happy with a couple of body panel fittings which they fixed no problems and also the driver's door seal which had a crease in it, not much, but BYD Muk. ordered a new one and changed it, no problems.

I used the number i was given for COVID vaccines for tax id and it worked on a couple of apps.

Sounds like you are having a tough time, hope it gets easier.

The PTT booking system is a pita tbh but can work in your favour.

Yesterday was coming back from the mil’s and normally i can make it there and back with around 10 or 15% left but wifey decided to inform me that we would be dropping the step daughter off at Uni also, another hour on the trip.

So, using the EV Station Pluz (PTT) app i could see a charger on the highway up ahead and made a booking. ( 20 baht discounted from charging fee ).

Upon arrival at 3 minutes to 4pm there was a guy stood by his car scratching his head ( he had been charging when it suddenly stopped because of my booking ).

He obligingly moved to the other charging point but then had difficulty in getting it going, looked like someone had booked that one too. I left after 15 minutes and offered him to charge but I don’t think he understood what was happening.

So, normally I would “ walk in” to charge on PTT but if it is busy, like yesterday, best to make a booking .
