Myanmar’s military junta has used foreigners including Thais as human shields in northeastern Shan State, where fighting the junta and an ethnic alliance is escalating, according to The Irrawaddy online.

Instead of sending them back to their respective countries, the junta’s anti-human trafficking unit sent them to military camps, the online quoted a humanitarian worker as saying. Apart from Thais, other foreign nationals were those from Nepal, Ethiopia and Laos.

“The army is using them as forced labor to build bunkers, dig trenches, and carry timber. They are practically human shields.”

said who? They apparently have no understanding of the concept of "human shields"... Burma and Thailand should understand slave labor, what with death railway of WW2

Maybe, just maybe, ASEAN could have a chat about Burma next time they get together!

 For reference: (mixed loyalties?)

JAKARTA, Sept 4 (Reuters) - Malaysia called on its Southeast Asian partners on Monday to impose "strong" measures against Myanmar's ruling generals, saying "obstacles" they created had blocked a peace plan for the strife-torn country.

The unusually blunt message from Malaysia came as top Southeast Asian diplomats met to review their regional bloc's stalled peace plan for Myanmar, with frustration growing with the military's failure to end violence more than two years after it seized power in a coup.

Tokyo (October 27 2023) ASEAN's engagement with Myanmar's military government to restore peace in the country will continue under the chairmanship of Laos next year.........................Communist Laos, which will assume the bloc's rotating chairmanship next year, has been relatively conciliatory toward Myanmar's military government. By contrast, countries such as Indonesia, this year's chair, Malaysia, and Singapore have taken a more hard-line stance toward the generals.

From reports coming out of Burma the Rabel forces, for the want of a better name, have taken control of 25 army bases in the eastern border region, bordering China, and are gaining ground in the north, too.

With respect, not just military bases but the important cross-border trading city of Chinshwehaw at the Chinese border.

"Myanmar’s military government says it has lost control of an important town on the border with China after days of fierce fighting with armed groups. The loss is a major blow to the generals who seized power .............. and have since struggled to contain opposition to their rule. “Government, administrative organisations and security organisations are no longer present” in Chinshwehaw, government spokesman Zaw Min Tun said on Wednesday. The town, bordering China’s Yunnan province, is central to the flow of trade from Myanmar to China. More than a quarter of Myanmar’s $1.8bn border trade with China passed through Chinshwehaw from April to September........ coalition of three ethnic rebel groups known as the Brotherhood Alliance – the Ta’ang National Liberation Army, the Arakan Army and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA)................they said they have taken over several military posts and key roads linking Myanmar with China.

I think the Burmese generals government could collapse almost instantly. People should be preparing now for what will be needed after it falls.

The Myanmar government is supported by 2 great allies , China and Russia .

I hope it falls ( fails ) as soon as possible , but it might be a bit early to prepare for what happens after the rebel's victory .

If there would be a revolution from inside the army , the ugly Mr. Hling monster would not last long . But he commands his army with an ' iron fist ' , deserting soldiers will be tortured or executed .

China and Russia both see a geopolitical ( and financial ) advantage in supporting the junta .

Indeed. And so I hope other powers are at least clandestinely opposing the generals. Turning over the Burmese government could change everything in the region and put China on its heels.

Why would they understand? They aided and abetted Japan who perpetrated it.
