In this day and age of "misinformation" disinformation" "malinformation" and " fact checkers" I was hoping some historians would be able to let us know when censorship was on the correct side of history.  What governments and regimes were correct to censor it's subjects?

 

It looks like censosrship goes back a few thousand years.

We are living in an unprecedented era due technology. Literaloy anyone, for any reason or no 0articular reason   can disseminate msinformation (or information, but more often the latter) to millions of people instantly.

 

So hard to compare to even the recent  past. 

Google is amazing yet most people don't have a clue about the world.

 

 

Is having fact checkers censorship, though?

 

Prior to the internet, people with crackpot opinions would be socially shunned and there ideas wouldn't spread far.

 

These days, people have platforms they can spread their opinions far and wide, no matter how out there.

 

Having fact checkers disagree with conspiracy theories seems like a pretty small trade-off to being able to blast your ideas world-wide.

History is not an objective collection of data, it is written down by humans. To answer your question: When has history been on the correct side of censorship? - When it has been written by the censors, they will make sure that their version of events is interpreted to their liking.

 

Nobody has to censor any information I might be interested to read!

 

Nobody has the right to censor any information I want to give others, might it be on politics, might it be on side effects of medicine or vaccines.

 

It is the job and the right of the individual person to decide what to do with the information given.

 

There has to be a freedom of information. This is a human right! And it is violated worldwide, in the Western world way more often than the people might think.

 

We live in times in which especially governments and big media, directly or indirectly owned by a few very powerful people try to define what the 'truth' is, while they create this 'truth' for the masses in order to manipulate them in a way which makes these powerful people even more rich and even more powerful. They define the 'truth', they employ the fact checkers, and they initiate censorship. 

 

Censorship is one of the biggest evil we have nowadays.

 

History never is on the right side of censorship, as censorship is fundamentally wrong.

In most cases... Yes, they are censors of anything that doesn't fit 'their' agenda.  You call a snake a snake and they'll tell you that's wrong. It's a reptile and censor the truth (especially media matters).

A case in point was my refusal to take those injections.  My logic was clear and correct. 

 

When the panic started, I asked people if they knew anyone who had been hospitalized or died.  One coworker lost his brother (who was in a mental institution). That was it.

   Step 2: talk to the paramedic, nurses and fire captain I knew.  They hadn't had a single call related to the deadly plague. ICU nurse said they'd had zero patients due to the botch. 

Talk to medical examiner I knew.  She had one person she had autopsied who died from the botch and she cited the known health risks of masks and refused to wear one. 

  Step 3: visit my local hospital and check for myself. The place was empty. Hmm.

  Final step: consult provincial and national mortality tables to see if there were statistical anomalies.   Nothing there either. 

 

I don't use Facebook or other social media, nor do I watch television, so my decision was not based on dis or mis or mal information, but people sure treated me like it was. Inject whatever you want into you and your helpless children's bodies, but leave the rational people alone to die in peace.

It's actually not a case in point.

 

You always have a right to an opinion (the first sentence).  You don't always have a right to act on it, though (the second sentence).

Thanks, think I will stick with people who source their facts.  Surely not 100% right but I am not of the opinion that there is a global conspiracy that employs every fact-checker and social media outlet in the world.
