Pattaya rescue workers and lifeguards on Wednesday held a rescue drill simulating drowning incidents on Jomtien Beach.

The November 8th practice was observed by Pattaya officials led by Mr. Kritsana Boonsawat, Deputy Mayor, and Mr. Charoen Thiammuang, Head of the Maritime Safety Control Center of Pattaya City.

The drill involved a simulation of swimmers drowning in Pattaya Bay, an assessment of how fast the lifeguards could rescue the victims from the water to safety, and practice for CPR performance.

They would be much further ahead showing how to administer rabies shots and have Erin brockovitch hold a conference.

I have driven down beach road many times and rarely see a lifeguard on duty. Good that they are practicing, but the city needs to get the budget to help man the empty stands.

We can only assume the "lifeguards" are suitably qualified. i.e They can swim?

From what I have seen of the ''lifeguards'' at Pattaya, they just sit around playing on their phones - none of them are keeping a watchful eye on persons swimming in the sea.  And I have certainly never seen anybody in the ''watch tower'' . . .
