In a diplomatic spectacle, the Russian Navy‘s Pacific Ocean Fleet, Admiral Panteleyev, has made waves with its visit to Thailand‘s Sattahip, marking a significant diplomatic event—the first since 2019. The vessel was welcomed with the Soviet classic Katyusha performed by an orchestra, setting the stage for a diplomatic dance between nations. A Royal Thai Navy official rolled out the red carpet for the Russian ship.

“We believe that it is necessary to maintain normal friendly relations with all countries, and Russia is no exception here.”

As the Russian destroyer graces Thai waters, talks emerge of a reciprocal visit by a Royal Thai Navy ship to Vladivostok. This hints at a shared interest in fostering robust ties between the two nations, underlining the significance of this diplomatic overture.

The last Russian visit to Sattahip was in October 2019, making the current presence of Admiral Panteleyev a noteworthy diplomatic gesture amid heightened geopolitical tensions.

Simultaneously, the United States Navy deployed a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to South Korea in response to North Korean provocations. South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik announces joint maritime drills with the US and Japan, featuring the participation of the USS Carl Vinson.

Rear Admiral Carlos Sardiello emphasizes the US commitment to its ally’s security, showcasing military preparedness against North Korean threats.

I hope future FTA's with the EU go well for Thailand.

A good trick for an admiral.

He's only here looking for draft-dodgers.

I would think that, if so, the port of call would be Phuket or Samui. Still thinking that Putin & Co. could declare a need to protect Russian speakers in those locations …

Yup soon be recruiting Thais to fight their war.

Nah, they can press gang all those young-ish Russian holiday makers in Pattaya, give them a free trip back to mother Russia. Their Black Sea fleet needs more manpower...and ships.

Friendly relations are ok.

But Russia is in an aggressive, brutal, barbarian war invading Ukraine killing civilians.

I doubt it's a good decision to let them visit Thailand.

1m dead muslims in Iraq say pot calling kettle black. Since all those attributes also applied to the Americans should they not be unwelcome too?

Meanwhile maybe more than a few Russian Expat/refugee/war escapees/deserters and crapping themselves and carefully avoiding the area. Particularly if any of them are aware of the historical 'Press Gangs' of the Royal Navy.

Now THAT would be interesting, wouldn't it?

You can see the headlines, "Russian warship Press Gangs 300 refugees to be sent to the front line in Russia. Thailand insists it is a misunderstanding!
