Old Asian hands from Thermae, Grace & Patpong era
I had a girl from Chiang Mai from Rosemary 1 and moved into her place on Sukhumvit 22. Further up Sukhumvit on opposite side of road was the Rich hotel. Next door was a big open air Isaan music venue where I was taken a few times by various homesick girls. A couple of songs on the juke box in Thermaes will always bring back memories. ' Last train to London ' and ' Midnight rider ' by Paul Davidson. On weekends used to go to the weekend market which was then all around Sanam Luang. On weekday evenings I sometimes rode my small motorcycle there as there was a lively freelancer scene . Picked up some nice company who got a buzz going with a ' farang ' on the back of his bike. On Sundays there used to be very little traffic and I would just ride and ride with no destination in mind. The Thonburi side was almost totally undeveloped and very rural. Happy memories -

Chiang Mai Battles Severe Air Pollution Amidst Persistent Wildfires
I can understand why geographically poor air can be trapped(?) in that area but that and the political will not to stop the burning in Thailand and Laos/Burma etc defeats me. Another thing thing amazes me is why, when you have a choice as foreigners do, they go to live there – maybe a death wish? -

Trump Starts Global Tariff Wall, Thailand Hit with 36% Tax
Remember the incredibly great economic Trump took over. Good growth. Low unemployment, Low inflation. Booming stock market. If Trump had simply just gone golfing we would be in much better shape now. -

Le Pen’s Ban Fuels Hard-Right Narrative of Persecution
It is worth looking at other offences of corruption in France to juxtapose with the treatment of Le Pen. The offences differ in detail, but they are broadly similar in nature — all involve misuse of public funds or negligence in public office: <> Marine Le Pen: Convicted in 2025 for embezzling EU funds by using them to pay party staff in France rather than for EU parliamentary work. Result: 4-year sentence (2 suspended), €100,000 fine, 5-year ban from office <> Christine Lagarde: Found guilty in 2016 of negligence over a €400m payout to a businessman while finance minister. No fine, no ban, no sentence imposed. <> Jacques Chirac: Convicted in 2011 of embezzlement and abuse of public trust — creating fake jobs while mayor of Paris. Received a 2-year suspended sentence, no political ban. Proportionality …. hmmmm, arguably, Le Pen’s case involves a smaller financial scale than Lagarde’s or Chirac’s — yet she received the harshest penalty in terms of political consequences. That raises valid concerns about consistency and timing, especially with an election on the horizon; and we worry about the ominous signs of a two their justice system in the UK.
