Frozen in time: British expats losing out on pensions in Thailand
What is it with the continual complaining about the spending on asylum seekers. The asylum seeker spending is taken straight out of the foreign aid budget. (The people that actually pay for the cost of asylum seekers are the people in the countries where we would have spent the foreign aid money.) Anyway, the amount spent on asylum seekers is due to the slow processing of claims for asylum (because granted and given the right to work, or disallowed and no longer entitled to stay in the country - either way, you stop paying to house them as asylum seekers). -

The classic tune from one of my favourite movies Ferris Bueller's Day Off. It was one of the last movies to use actual extras, before CGI eliminated the need for them. It's a feel good movie infused with love and fun. May the USA be restored to a place of safety, harmony and happiness. -

Yes - but that's not a rule, it's at the discretion of the individual GP. i.e. You're OK as long as that particular GP is still working. Once he retires... -

Frozen in time: British expats losing out on pensions in Thailand
What I cannot understand is why the BRITISH government is penalising BRITISH pensioners who retire to certain countries, what they should be doing is encouraging them to do so,thus saving many millions of £’s. I base this on my own circumstances when I returned to live in the UK. with my wife and two children. Cost of state school per child approximately £6,000 x 2 = £12,000. child allowance £2,160, my increase in state pension £4,512. thus an extra charge to the exchequer of £18,672 and this is without including medical and dental charges. OK I am just one individual, but just imagine if tens of thousand of UK pensioners returned to the Uk what would be the overall cost, probably in excess of the 3.65 BILLION pounds we are now spending on the Illegal Economic Migrants each year. -

Travelling during Iran Israel crisis to and from Europe.
EVA Air. Last night's flight from LHR to BKK arrived BKK today only 2 minutes late. Today's flight from BKK to LHR departed BKK 2 minutes early and is due to land at LHR in about 40 minutes, which will be 30 minutes ahead of schedule. I am keeping an eye on things as I will be flying LHR to BKK in 3 weeks time. -

BREAKING NEWS IRAN ATTACKS ISRAEL
I call it brilliant and compassionate. Instead of risking hundreds of collateral damage injuries, the Israelis targeted only the key terrorists. Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah launch thousands of missiles, rockets and drones. The targets are indiscriminate. No one questions that strategy. Israel uses targeted precision and the bigots come out to point their fingers. -

Electric scooter inferno: Sattahip park blaze leaves metal carnage
No mention of make/model, or even what type of battery the scooter had; lead acid, gem, or lithium, and if so, what chemistry. Apparently it was being charge, and no mention if any modifications were made to the scooter. Guess we'll need to wait for the follow up report ... oh wait, that will never happen, especially if it wasn't a lithium battery. -

'Damning non-answer': Vance refuses to acknowledge Trump lost the 2020 election
Vance has been a willing and active echo chamber for all of Trump's most recent notable and well documented lies: --the [not] stolen 2020 presidential election --Haitians immigrants [not] eating stolen dogs and cats --the false claims about vast numbers of undocumented resident/criminals running loose because of the Biden admin. And that's just the short list.... Vance has been an active participant and in some cases instigator of them. JD Vance spreads debunked claims about Haitian immigrants eating pets September 10, 2024 "Vance, who represents Ohio in the U.S. Senate, spread a debunked claim about Haitian migrants living in the city of Springfield, Ohio, on Monday, accusing them of abducting pets and eating them. The claim, which local police say is baseless, was made by far-right activists, local Republicans and neo-Nazis before being picked up by Vance." https://www.npr.org/2024/09/10/nx-s1-5107320/jd-vance-springfield-ohio-haitians-pets -

Driver Flees Scene After Attempting to Extinguish Flames in Bus Fire Tragedy
I think emergency exits on busses open from the inside, not the outside. It will be interesting to find out if the teachers on the inside were unable to open them. -

Frozen in time: British expats losing out on pensions in Thailand
If he lives in the Philippines, he should be getting the full pension including the increases. If he hasn't been - he should start complaining loudly - that they don't know their own rules. Maybe they don't believe that he is living in the Philippines because he's using a UK bank account still. Probably should open a bank account there and get his pension paid into it (should be easy to do if he's living there on a retirement visa of some sort).
