DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — ABC News on Tuesday canceled the next Republican presidential debate after Nikki Haley said she wouldn't participate unless former President Donald Trump takes part in it, leaving Gov. Ron DeSantis as the only candidate committed to Thursday's event in New Hampshire.

“We’ve had five great debates in this campaign,” Haley said in a statement, released as she campaigned in New Hampshire. “Unfortunately, Donald Trump has ducked all of them. He has nowhere left to hide. The next debate I do will either be with Donald Trump or with Joe Biden. I look forward to it.”

Her statement was released a day after the all-important Iowa caucuses, in which Trump marked a wide margin of victory over both Haley and DeSantis. With the two locked in a heated competition for second place in Iowa, Haley tried to make her electoral argument more about Trump than DeSantis, repeatedly echoing her refrain that her candidacy marks a turnabout from the “chaos” that follows the GOP front-runner.

And, of course...

Trump defends mistaking Obama for Biden, says he’s being sarcastic 😀

There is a big difference in confusing 2 people in a speech, and not knowing your sister from your wife when they both stand next to you, or not remembering where your own son died

Both Biden and Trump can only loose by debating.

Biden ( or his handlers apparently think ) certainly shouldn't be in a debate. Trump doesn't need to be. Everything he has said has been published many times, so is there anyone in America that doesn't know where he stands on anything? It's only less well known people like Hayley that need to get out and make their views known.

By not debating, she loses a rare opportunity to get herself out in the public eye. IMO the debates themselves are pointless , or at least the ones I've seen were, but they get the candidates out to a wider than normal audience.

No way biden will debate anyone. Having Trump on the debate stage would be good. He really should participate.

He knows the media will only use it to ridicule him, so IMO he is doing the right thing by not showing up. I remember the time when the moderator was openly biased against him in the 2016 debates.

He won't lose any votes by not going on them.

Given the spread in the numbers behind Trump, there’s no need for him to debate, there are really no other republican contenders. It’s just another dog and pony show. Let’s wait and see if the Biden is up to a debate when/if the time comes.

In Iowa, a very red state, only 2,222 more voters voted for Trump than for other candidates. One wonders who the voters who voted for someone other than Trump would vote for in the general.

Nah, he knows they are going to ask him questions about his state of mind when organizing an insurrection. He knows that whatever he says can and will be used against him by Smith. He shouldn't be such a snowflake about a moderator being biased. Maybe he just can't answer the hard questions. You know, harder then the IQ test he aced.

Well, not even a colour-blind person would confuse Obama and Biden! 😅

Biden always made gaffes. In this particular case, his sister and wife were sitting behind him, and he just took them by the hand without watching them.

Biden's son died from burn pits exposure during the Irak war. Maybe he should have said he died from the Irak war, rather than in the Irak war?

"The moderator was openly biased". What a joke! Trump was whining because he could not have it his way and had to follow the usual rules. You really believed him? 😃

Nothing at all to do with the media.

He just can't allow himself to be challenged on stage. He only has to lose by debating.
