If you don't like it Leave ! Root canal

Recommended Posts

Take note. Dentists are taught to say you need a crown any time a root canal is needed. Especially when they grind down your tooth and find a crack down in there. Every time I had a sensitive tooth that they ground deep, said a crack is there, and I need root canal and crown. Luckily, my sister was a dental assistant and told me the game. Dentists are playing it safe and go for the guarantee solution for all.

Root canals cannot be avoided if there is an infection in the root. (Make them show you the infection in the x-ray, it will look like a black void at the base of the root). She recommended to always go with the filling and not take the crown the first time. I have taken her advice and for 2 teeth, the fillings have worked just fine for 5 years now.

In Pattaya (at BPH) a root canal is approx 15,000 baht, a top notch ceramic crown is approx 16,000 baht and maybe 2,000 baht for misc fees/supplies etc. If a pin is needed for the crown then that is approx 4000 baht.

So about 4 visits and about 35,000 baht.

Hope that helps.

Last week I checked this out, nearly all quote total of 38,000 baht in Pattaya

So around 20,000 baht !

Great price,I don't think I have seen I cheaper

How many times did you have to go?

Was it like 2-3 times ?

38k per tooth with root canal included.

Usually 3-4 visits, root extraction, temporary tooth, new tooth a week+ later, last appointment  for adjustment etc.

People replying you have no idea what they are talking about.

Prices for root canals vary depending on which tooth ad they can have 1-4 canals, the more canals they have the more it costs plus whatever complications dentist will encounter.

Big fancy clinics and hospitals will cost more and have lower quality of service while the cheaper ones you probably won't want to be in if you look at the age of the equipment.

With that said root canal can cost anything from 15-30k and the crown will be depending on materials and clinic 20-30k

Tell us which tooth and that will make estimation more accurate.

Any the way every dentist has price list online so you can just ask them about your case on line or read their website

I am currently half way through this process, again.

Two sessions of RCT - Baht 6,700 for molar tooth (3 roots).

Estimated 3 sessions for crown work - Baht 14,500.

Work done by two dental specialists, who work in government hospitals, but do extra work at a private clinic.

Implant is costly, takes many visits and the time for the implant pin to graft is about 6 months before any crown can be fitted.

I needed a new bridge which included a root canal and an implant pin. I also had 2 ceramic crowns on either side. All of this was completed in under 3 weeks. That was done in Phuket 14 years ago and they have been great to this point.

I have been quoted $2,900 AUD in Australia which is around 70,000 Thai baht for a Root canal includes a metallic crown apparently have no idea what that means but anyway

I argued with the Australian dentist

"This is too much ,I'm only a hospital cleaner I shouted

" I will give you $1000 ( around 23000 Thai baht)

He shouts back " If you don't like it......leave !!!!!

Leave !!! If you don't like it !....leave !

Upper right tooth near the front 3rd from front

About 3-4 visits approx

70,000 baht !!!!

How much in Thailand or Cambodia or Philippines?

Well my aybe not Cambodia

Philippines may be a option BUT I'm thinking more Thailand!!!!

I'm thinking of making a trip to save and cancel this Australia dental appointment!

I would take his advice. I got quoted over $2000 to get my wisdom teeth out. I literally bought a return ticket to Thailand, had a holiday and had all 4 out (in 2 sessions) for cheaper than that clown quoted me.

About right, and of course the front teeth are the most expensive in general.

I have just had a root canal done in Pattaya two weeks ago. 8,000bt.

Went yesterday for a check up. Healing nicely but he wants to wait another three weeks until it is 100% healed before fitting the crown.

Do not know the price of the crown but he did an excellent job with the root canal..

Although he gave me painkillers after the filling, I did not use them as there was no pain!!

I had a molar root canal and gold crown done in Bangkok for $1300 and the AU dentist had quoted me $5000 for it (but that was for porcelain and not gold). This was about 5 years ago so prices will have changed a bit, but this is also larger and gold, so I would think ballpark still.

From memory there was a specialist dentist that just came once a week to do this type of work and I had to go  4 or five times to have it completed.

Well, if you consider the costs for a air ticket it's wise to take the Australian offer. A root canal treatment could not be done within one day in many cases. So another expenses for accommodation.

Think twice. Good luck anyway.

FYI---there is no root canal removal. A root canal is where the nerve roots are cleaned out and filled with a special solution and sealed, and then a crown is fitted (sometimes with a pin if the tooth strucure is not syfficient).

I had a root canal about 3 or 4 years back. The first one in my life. The dentist told me 6000 baht for the root canal, so I said ok. It cost over 30,000 baht when all was said and done, including 10000 for powdered bone. When finished the tooth was still sensitive to hot and cold.

I went to another dentist in Pattaya and spent another 20,000 baht to have a Panorex and the tooth taken out. There was bone loss around the tooth and my local dentist should have taken it out, not filled it.

Total outlay over 50K and I have a great big hole in my mouth. Not good value, perhaps you should stay in Oz.

The price the OP was quoted in Australia is not excessive. The clinic the dentist rents in Australia, and the receptionists/assistants they pay for, are considerably more expensive than what would be paid in Thailand.

It does not matter to me. My private health fund in Australia pays half my dental expenses, so the cost of dentistry there and in Thailand comes out the same.

The low prices quoted for root canals (10/15k) etc are only for base uncomplicated cases.

The price goes way up for re-doing old root canals, use of microscopes, ultrasonic cleanses, etc etc. You don't typically know the total cost beforehand.

These dentists in the West are bloodsuckers !

Probably same in the UK

Are dentists expensive around the World?

What about places like Poland and Hungary?

I heard in Australia their hourly rate as a employee iof a hospital is $200 an hour !

I have decided I might get in on this dentistry myself with that kind of money !

You forget one very big thing about Australia and all the other western countries and that is that the cost of living is a lot higher than Thailand and any other Asian country.

The $2900 AUD fee is the gap with a health fund

It feels like a lot of places in Pattaya are rushed or that there are too many customers to handle. I can feel it when I go in.

One thing I don't want rushed is dental work or the next person waiting out in the lobby for the next appointment.

You said in your OP you were quoted $2900. You did not say anything about a gap.

I would agree $5800 for the procedure is excessive. However, IMO you are now bullsh!tting.

4 gold crowns on molars on separate occasions 5-8 years ago at one of the fancier looking places in Bangkok. Apparently gold (actually gold alloy) is still the best in many ways. Around $A1,000 per crown (no root canals), would have been much cheaper if not gold. Dentist told me the crowns would last from 6 to 12 years, all good so far. He was also a specialist who travelled between clinics.

Another saving is in X rays needed before work on the crown, almost negligible cost compared to Australia.

I will send it to your inbox on Monday , can't wait till the old man apologies

My health fund pays 50% of what is quoted, which is why I doubled the figure to $5800.

In your case, if your dentist quoted  me $2900, I would be out of pocket

$1450. It doesn't sound as if HCF is particularly generous with its refunds.

Why should I apologize, when you post incomplete and misleading information?
