The NIDA Poll, recently conducted among a total of 1,310 people from all walks of life in all regions of the country, has found 41.60% of the respondents say the possible anti-Thaksin protests will almost certainly not escalate and be prolonged to a politically critical extent as those in the last couple of decades. That compared to 41.30% of the respondents who say the possible anti-Thaksin protests in the capital and elsewhere will almost certainly occur, albeit not as critically as in the past or pivotal to the current Pheu Thai-led government’s survival. Meanwhile, the poll has found 11.15% of the respondents say possible uprisings of anti-Thaksin demonstrators will almost certainly become so politically critical as the previous events which culminated in the ouster of the former prime minister in the 2006 coup and that of his sister/former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra in the 2014 coup. The age group 20+ are too busy trying to earn a living, the age group 30+ are trying to keep a home going and raise a family, 40+ they are trying to hold onto what they've got and 50+ too lethargic to do anything. Nothing happens apart from the government using the army to attack Thais, and then it all fades away with nothing at all achieved, except to give people jobs rebuilding damaged or destroyed infrastructure. And so that is why they weren't in uproar over the stolen election. The last election showed us that having the last name Shinawatra is not good enough anymore to win an election. It seems slowly Thais learn that if they vote for corrupt individuals then they end up with a corrupt government. Having said all that, let's look what happens if Thaksin is in the wild again. So far most anti Thaksin yellow shirts and actvisits have stayed out from the streets. Even serial social activist Srisuwan Janya has not directly filed court petition on Thaksin and rather accused Department of Correction of abusing power. All understand that the pardon is royally endorsed and will be fateful to protest. People has got over Thaksin and there will be no political tsunami as a serial Thaksin critic tried to frame. I believe that Thaksin will get a role in the government probably as an adviser. A decade of economic mismangement by the incompetent generals have put Thailand in a bad spot and Thaksin's contribution will be constructive. If this government can reverse the current economic poor state and the population livelihood, the subject surrounding Thaksin will fade into the background. Massive street protests have resulted in the toppling of authoritarian regimes. Ask General Suchinda, who was toppled by street protests in 1992. Of course, this is a new generation of Thais, glued to their devices, Tiktok and their influencers, a lethargic nation. Also, it is not enough to just have a few thousand or tens of thousands demonstrating.Back then you had a million or more hitting the streets, paralyzing Bkk.It can be done, and it has been done.
