i feel there are many such responses on this forum among the cynicism

off course there are the posts from say midnight to 2am that are usually good for a laugh as you know a few changs were involved
but overall 

maybe better as a poll than a post?

It kind of all depends on the topic at hand.

Any thing to do with US politics and i am less and less inclined to post an opinion.

People still find a lot of help if they have sincere questions on other topics.

I have been on here for awhile now and yes,overall things are getting worse.

Times are changing and so are people.

We are getting more and more selfish and dis respectful as a species i think.

Funny that social media seems to make people less social.

of order about it while many others uses profenties and  rude language...

don't think i want to either
cynicism is different and i dont mean in general about slagging of Thais 
there is a lot less of that previously was say eight years ago
it is more of a generalization about how people respond to each topic
as well as the failure to actually read

There are many fictional instances in movies where they usually track someone down and find a 15 yr old in their moms basement slagging of all and sundry.

I don't think so. What I think is that people who post non-mainstream ideas or 'devil's advocate' positions tend to get criticised for their posts.

I noticed it the other day, when a lady posted that we live in the 21st century now and that the behaviour described in the article was no big deal for their age group....it referred to the arrest of a 20 year old boy who offered porn videos of him and his 13 year old girlfriend for sale on the internet. There were a lot of nasty posts, from presumably grump old men, referring to the lady's comment. 

I often attract negative replies to my stances on the war in Israel and the war in Ukraine where I don't buy into the mainstream narratives. I could easily stop posting and save myself the negative comments, but I don't feel like doing so. Cussedness, I suppose. 

The forum has a wide range of people posting from the highly educated and informed to base low people. A bit like people who were shocked about the Red Wall in UK politics. You only have to visit a pub in the northern half of England to understand how white working class people, former Labour voters, feel about immigration....it was only champagne socialists down in Islington who misunderstood this.

I have not been on this forum all that long so I can't compare it to how it was before.  That said, I came here for some specific marriage and visa advice and I got some really great, in depth, advice.

 

And the 2 or 3 times I requested other information, I got a lot of responses.  Some great, some not so great...but all were pretty well intended.  And getting just one helpful response is fantastic and should never be taken for granted.  And no-one has entered one of my sincere topics and started an internet mud slinging fight with me.

 

That said, I have been in a couple of internet mud slinging fights on the forum.  But it always happens when I see someone post something really silly (imo) and dare to disagree with it.  It would probably be wiser if I would ignore the occasional silly posts and concentrate on helping people (or getting help from people) where I can.

 

Basically, I find social media (and this forum) good for getting answers and giving answers.  But not so good for general discourse or musing over nuanced topics.  And ignoring the silly people is easier than disagreeing with them.

Ever since the Roman writer Juvenal, the old have been saying the younger generations are going to hell in a hand basket.

I suppose one major change today is social media enabling the flow of information and helpful advice. Unfortunately, it has also facilitated people who should have their feeding instructions tattooed on their foreheads.

All social media is linked to depression. Maybe if you can't quit put a time limit on it. Like a food restriction. One burger a week. Social media 5pm to 6pm only or whatever suits. If you have a diary and you plan out your days life tends to be better. Also if someone is being nasty that's not your fault. Some woman or business deal went south and they are putting their anger onto anyone in front of them.

i think most people at 70 odd realise they have made a lot of poor life choices about their health
we grow older than we ever did
but we knew very little about health
plus mortality comes into play after 50
and we realise that we have less time left than we have lived
thats just fear of dying
in that i have no fear at 60 plus i think im doing okay 
i recently worked wth a guy in his mid 70's a non drinker
we went out and threw a ton of mulch in an hour
he just had a triple bypass took him a month or  so to bounce back
bad genetics as far as cholesterol was concerned nd a panchance for ice cream
i only think id like to be 36 when i see a beautiful young woman

mortality comes to us all an acceptance of that means less longing 
a longing for such is simply a life of regret

Seems to have improved from before, I'd say. As an example, our bigots are no longer allowed to use their fave racial slurs. Just as argumentative as ever, though. Still full of trolls. In the old days there were far more posters, so along with the deadweight were a larger number of brighter guys as well, making for better reading and discussion.

I think it's hard to see any improvement over the years. Over a decade I  abstained to post anything. The rudeness is still there and some acting still as judges. It's still only right or wrong or white and black. Offenses are usual and gutter language often the standard. Bad wording no problem. Anonymity makes it possible.

However there are still members who like to discuss matters. And often there are news concerning all expats. Therefore I'll try it again.🙏

Currently 82. I would go for 56. Marginally less stupid then than when I was 36. We oldies get treated better here in Thailand than we do in many of our home countries. I have had no abuse on this forum, and even after the accumulated experience of all the years I have lived here I still find the content informative, helpful and, sometimes, good for a laugh.

His post about a broken laptop my post was removed because i berated that it was going so off topic that OP had no chance of resolve 
I also posted a suggestion for him but as the post was removed by someone who also perhaps had no grasp of IT this information would have been lost.
Fortunately for OP I messaged him resolved the problem and that of another  a double hit.
Not the first time I have done that for someone on this forum.
that was a very protracted cloning job, i think im still owed a coffee from the lady
but she too was getting nowhere fast with the 'help'
Suggestions for a dead laptop that showed no signs of power were getting the OP nowhere
