Air Conditioner Sizing

Having designed Computer Rooms / Data Centers, golden rule was never to have the AirCon units facing each other, as the airflow across the room is effected, and the Temperature sensors in the units will shut the units down quicker, so you'll end up with a stop-start system, rather than a constantly running / comfort cooling system.

Quick question. Any reason why AirCon wasn't included in the original building design? Impact on aesthetics, electrical distribution, outdoor condenser placement etc.

You have the most informed opinion concerning units facing each other affecting the sensors.IMHO as an old Marine Engineer.

It's a long room, I would fit 2 of 12,000 BTU Inverter Air Cons, one at each end.   Our business has fitted dozens of air cons of many different makes, our favourite is TCL sourced from Laza

  • You may also be better off investing in wooden blinds similar to those found in southern Europe.

Alternatively, fit a 24,000 BTU cassette unit in the middle of the room.

Didn't you previously say on another thread you'd recommend 18k BTU rather than 24k BTU due to the fan only being the difference? or maybe it was someone else.

On the subject of TCLs, any appropriate size inverter or is there a specific model you recommend?

Yes I did, but in wall mounted split units, cassettes are completely different. I don't recommend 24,000 BTU in wall mounted, they are noisy.

I have one 36.000 BTU single phase, heat/cool Fujitsu model.

We have installed 9,000, 12,000 & 18,000 BTU inverter models, they are all excellent.  They now have available units that connect to the internet.  We buy on Lazada, sometimes waiting for the price to drop if they raise them artificially prior to a sale.

I had a similar room size and went with a 12,000 BTU inverter unit—cools fast and quiet, even during the hottest afternoons, without cycling on and off too much.

Unfortunately it was only wired for one unit facing a less than optimal direction.  Pick below shows its location in red.

Why was the position, number  and wiring of the a/cs not decided way sooner in the project?

12000 is too small for such a sized room. It will be knocking its b0110x off. 2 x 12000 would be far better.

For others (since an old thread), a lot will depend on the construction, and exposure of sun on outer surfaces of building.  Newer insulated building materials vs older concrete & cinder everything, roof & block.

Our 2 ACs are way underpowered, according to Mitsubishi rep when we bought, and strongly suggested bigger or more units.   Yet they handle the m² with no problem, even on the hottest days, and cycle down when comfy temp reached.

I had a similar issue balancing cool air between rooms until I got help from https://emersonproservices.com/carrollton/. Turns out my unit was way too big for the space, and the advice I got saved me from cranking the thermostat all day. They helped tweak the setup so the airflow made more sense, and now no more icy living room and sweaty bedroom every night.
