Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, their names are now in danger,” he said. 😀 Trump's problem is that, as he is used that his supporters believe any B.S. he can tell, it encourages him to go further into the B.S. zone without any limit. 1

But, I must ask: is there anyone crazy enough to say that Trump is right? They already tried to remove William Penn's statue: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/after-backlash-william-penn-statue-will-remain-standing-in-philadelphia-180983573/ Last Friday, the National Park Service (NPS) announced plans to remove the statue, as well as a model of Penn’s original home, from Welcome Park, a small paved area located a few blocks from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. That decision was met with swift criticism, which eventually reached President Joe Biden and the Pennsylvania governor’s office. This week, the NPS reversed course, declaring it would leave the statue in place. Not hard to imagine they'll remove any references to Penn, including Pennsylvania. In the bigger picture, Trump is alluding to the recent push to erase US history, removing statues, renaming parks, renaming football teams, and otherwise disrespecting the (admittedly flawed, but period appropriate) characters that built the country into the greatest the world has ever seen. But is now being torn down, piece by piece. Edit: Not so strangely, that resonates with voters who have seen huge increases in crime over the past 3 years... A stronger economy? More people working and paying taxes to support social security and medicare for the retirees complaining about immigration? The working age population of US born citizens is declining. We need immigrants. Ideally Congress would massively reform immigration law and allow many more in legally, and increase funding for the courts to process and expel those that enter the country illegally. However Congress is more interested in scoring political points than solving problems. Two days after this post, the CBO in a 10 year budget estimate said the influx of illegal immigrants will force down wages in the U.S. Not good news for LEGAL American wage earners. Off course, according to you this will be offset by increased contributions by these illegals to Social Security and Medicare by these illegals. By the way, many illegals work under the table and pay no payroll taxes. And if wages go down, then payroll taxes go down. So, tell me how all this benefits this REAL hardworking Americans? 1

Removing statutes and things like that which seem to praise atrocities like slavery and the brutality endured by native Americans is a good thing. We need to learn from the past. Not glorify those who committed horrendous acts. Hopefully there are better things to praise. Like Rosa Parks, etc. Though white America might not agree. 1 1 2

A) Look at the way native tribes treated each other long before the colonies were a spark of someone's imagination. Just about every acre of the US and Canada changed hands long before the colonies, and often in brutal fashion. They killed each other, often in the most painful way they could devise. The concept of a peaceful community of noble natives just doesn't comport with historical fact. B) Rosa Parks sat in the front of a bus. Admirable, sure. But it's hardly the same as forging a democratic country or writing a constitution. Unless you're a revisionist. Firstly many of the statues were erected and parks named, decades after the individuals had died, so hardly period appropriate regulation. Secondly many of the ‘flawed’ attitudes were already being challenged as unacceptable while these individuals were alive. America was built by countless millions of people, much of the work and wealth generation by slaves, so let’s celebrate those people, not their ‘flawed’ ‘owners’. Perhaps the removal of the Native Americans is something more troubling.

NYC mayor asks NY governor for more bucks as his budget faces more shortfalls. She, in turn, is asking the feds for more money. Denver is cutting public services in order to fund illegal migrant programs. What's a million here and a million there? Edited February 11 by Hawaiian Additional comment. I suspect they made some remark about suppressing wages in certain low skill sectors, which if Americans are working in ‘illegals’ didn’t put them there. Immigrants are doing the work Americans don’t want to and delivering services to Americans at prices Americans want to pay, not least of all, farm labour and food processing which have a direct impact on costs at the grocery store. 1
