Stealing from supermarkets has become an international plague and not only in Thailand, in Australia for instance

customers angry at the cost of living with the big supermarkets and retailers that $9 billion were stolen last year,

so we can say that Thailand is still far, far behind...

if he had stolen items that werent luxury goods i believe that MAYBE the powers that be might be somewhat lenient before deporting him. but it is hard to believe someone is starving when they steal alcohol... rather than sustenance

Actually "Did you know that retail crime, such as shoplifting, robbery and vandalism, costs Australian businesses up to $9 billion each year?", so not just stealing/shoplifting.

I am all for foreigners treatment in Thailand. Thai officials know exactly how to keep foreigners on leash. One-year permission to stay even with a 'wify' visa. They know there is no shortage of desperate people who can't live a decent life in their home land; hence, they have to flee their home country to find a decent living in a foreign land, often using a 'wify' visa. They don't have their voice heard anywhere except in a Farang forum where they can post all their hate for Thailand, Thais, Indians, Chinese, and now Russians. And when they steal, there will be parading. They must be reminded that they are in a foreign land because they can't have a decent living in their home land.

Exactly Gottfrid, why they persist in talking dollars all the time, it's Thailand not the good old US of A.

Yeah, but the most funny thing is that he probably compared to the price in the States as well. Otherwise can´t count, as 300 dollar would be closer to the said amount than 200.

In most supermarkets East or West High value items such as a bottle of whisky @ 10.000 baht are kept separate or extra security tags .

As already mentioned this guy is not stealing to survive he is living the good life at others expense so f.ck him let him enjoy the fish head cuisine in the monkey house.

Then after an appropriate time kick him out as persona non gratis
