Yeah, the one who's really rich. Not shocked that a rag like the daily mail not fit to be used as toilet paper does a hit job on a mining magnate who advocates for climate change action.

Yes, a billionaire who advocates for climate change action while flying around in a private jet...

Hey, I bet he's making bank on all the rare-earth metals required for renewables and EVs and whatnot. No doubt that's just a coincidence.

I bet he does pretty good with the gash on the left....

You expect him to walk? Weak tea. The same ridiculous argument is trotted out for every climate change activist.

No, the same argument is only trotted out for the rich, hypocritical climate change activists. The rank-and-file climate change activists are just stupid.

Well, if you follow the money you will find that he has invested billions into a renewable energy company, so it comes as no surprise that he wants government policy enacted to help him to become even richer than he already is.

No doubt you think he is one of the "good guys", when in reality he is just another very rich businessman who is taking advantage of the opportunities that come from climate change fear mongering.

Bear in mind when they talk about removing carbon from the world...Human beings are carbon.

If carbon dioxide is so bad why do they use raised levels in greenhouses and produce much higher crop yields ?

How is it that C02 levels where at least 5 times higher in the age of Dinosaurs than today's levels

temperatures were roughly 5°C–10°C higher than today, and sea levels were 50–100 meters higher  ?  man made ?   nope.

The Earth was hot during this Mesozoic Era — from about 250 to 66 million years ago — the concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere were up to 16 times higher than now, with temperatures six to nine degrees warmer than today. This was the time of the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods, dominated by reptiles (dinosaurs becoming the largest in average size during the Cretaceous) but with other marine, bird, mammal, insect and plant life evolving through the Jurassic and Cretaceous.

The Mesozoic Era began after the Permian/Triassic Extinction Event (likely driven by excessive volcanic activity in the form of huge areas of flood basalt in Siberia, with associated enormous releases of gases. The Mesozoic completed with the Cretaceous-Tertiary Extinction Event, which is coincident with a meteor impact in the Yucatan as well as Asian crustal plates staring to collide (continental drift), causing more volcanic activity, especially in the Indian Deccan plateau region (a lot more more basalt flow and gas). The resulting break in the food chain (plant life) is believed to have caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.

So, apart from acute events, the dinosaurs were far more adapted to the climate as was then but there was far more serious volcanic activity in general.

Dinosaurs, being reptiles, are cold blooded. Maybe humans could adapt to being cold blooded and then we could survive those temperatures as well.

A fortuitous (for humans) asteroid impact was the main culprit in killing dinosaurs.

Someone else who clearly doesn't understand the concept of rates. Yes, there are long term climate changes on various cycles that last up to 42000 years. But they move very slowly. Nothing like the relatively rapid gains that have occurred starting in the very recent past.

Very true.

Unfortunately understanding the difference between dramatic temperature changes that occur over millennia, a rate which allows ecosystems to adapt, and temperature changes that occur too fast for such adaptation, seems to be beyond the intellectual capacity of climate crisis deniers.

Are you suggesting that human civilization could survive temperatures as warm as the time of the dinosaurs?

He is recognising there is money to be made from the climate hysteria.  He doesn't see it as a problem, he sees it as an opportunity.

Yeah, he was just another greedy capitalist desecrating the environment for profit, now he's a hero.

How exactly one person sees the climate change issue is irrelevant.

What is relevant is that the Earth is warming, from human pollution

Well, apparently, the people who criticize climate change on account of the behavior of the wealthy and prominent, think personal details are somehow scientific data.

Following the money based on fear mongering is entirely relevant.  We saw with Covid how the extremely rich can take advantage and become even richer when people can be convinced there is an invisible monster on the loose that only their profitable solutions can solve.

The opposing view on (the causes of) climate change has been silenced, in the same way that opposing views on lockdowns, vaccinations etc were also silenced during covid.  This raises my hackles and when I see billionaires with private jets who have made all their money mining materials from the earth suddenly have a mea culpa on this, then I can see how the easily hoodwinked are once again being hoodwinked into furthering their enrichment.

Whether or not the rich can exploit opportunities - and since when hasn't that been the case - is irrelevant. Now maybe you're a socialist and resent private enterprise. Me, I'm all for for it as the best way of making progress.  As for the science, the denialists have consistently been proven wrong in their predictions about the global warming trend. So, all they've got left is to allege a huge conspiracy to deny them their say.

Climate change apocalyptic predictions have been doing the rounds since the 19th century.   The predictions have been continuously wrong.

The rich and powerful have learnt how easy it is to control populations and extract money from them through fear during covid so it comes as little surprise the nudge units around the world are doing their bit to stoke up the climate fears for more long term money extraction that will make little to no difference to the climate, but a big difference to the bottom line in their bank accounts.

There have been all kinds of predictions about all kinds of things since forever. But climatology only got its start as a science in the 1970's with the advent of advanced computing power.

Computers are definitely part of it, but there is also vastly more current and historical data to work with.  When properly analyzed the current climate trends are clear and frightening.

Covid was real. Climate change was real.

If an incoming asteroid were detected, some people would get rich selling asteroid helmets.

In the 1980's, there were specific predictions about temperature increases - which turned out to be accurate. Because its trivial to model temperature increase as carbon dioxide increases.

Do you understand that increasing CO2 increases atmospheric temperature?

Do you think that global production of CO2 will increase or decrease in the future?

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure this one out.

Since the landmark Paris agreement in 2015, global leaders have pledged to limit the long-term temperature rise to 1.5°C,

Only idiots would pledge to make something happen when they have zero control over it, like climate.

Of course they are politicians, so case proven, IMO.

I'm glad you pointed out that scammers get rich off the gullible, which brings me to the "people" getting rich off the gullible that believe buying an EV is going to stop the sky falling.

Yes it was, but it didn't warrant destroying the economy and countless people's lives by locking us all up.

What else can I say other than IMO the world is run by idiots politicians.
