More than 650,000 people have received medical treatment for illnesses caused by air pollution since the beginning of this year, particularly related to PM2.5, according to the Ministry of Public Health.

Of these, more than 300,000 had respiratory diseases, about 80,000 heart and brain diseases, over 110,000 eye infections and irritations and over had 140,000 skin infections.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin says he was shocked when he learned that about two million tonnes of sugarcane were burned before being harvested in Suphan Buri and Lop Buri provinces.

How many deaths?  I would guess the total of premature deaths annually would be more than Covid + road kill.  It's laughable that Thais still cling to masks.

Actually the masks help filter the PM2.5 effectively... so masks for the right reason might be a good thing.

good thing most thai are wearing surgical masks.

It is likely alot higher than that. And nobody does anything about it. DNS (Do nothing Sretta) does not want to offend his masters who own the sugar mills. His level of fealty is scary.

Well, how else do/did they get it. Someone had to earn it. Of course having the right parents may help but that is not their fault. Unless you are claiming it was all stolen?

Shades of Captain Renault feigning shock at gambling, in Casablanca.

Had to believe the PM was unaware of sugar cane harvesting procedures, given he must have sat through a dozen PM 2.5 briefings already.

So he is either ignorant or is a very bad liar, or just as dumb as he projects. Kind of a happy idiot.

Nothing.  Just continue grinning like a Cheshire cat, racking up airmiles at taxpayer expense and trying to sell fake project like the land bridge to generate consultancy fees for Thaksin cronies.
