There is a series on Netflix called Rotten which has an episode about cannabis edibles. They talk about young children in the states who accidentally eat a whole chocolate bar of their parent's cannabis edibles without knowing the chocolate contains a psychoactive drug. The kids freak out and end up in the emergency room at the hospital. Then they give them a bit of Valium and send them home. End of story.

 

*Note-To-Self: Consume a lot of cannabis and the hospital will give you free Valium.

That is nonsense, I smoke daily since 16 years with also breaks of 2 years and shorter periods of 6-12 months in between. Sure if you didn't smoke for a while (or long time), you will get high instantly just as you likely get drunk after only 2 glasses of wine. But once you have your 'base level' again, nothing really changes after how much or how strong it needs to be to get the same effect. Same as with alcohol, you might be able to drink X more but that's it.

You describe some extremely rare cases of a serious hardcore level rasta pothead, like snoop dog, who would really not be cool with anything much less than his grade weed. Even then, he would be just fine without any withdrawal issues in the average Thai dispensary, even he might hate it. Changes the brain chemistry? Ehh ok, I guess many things do that, including social media usage of 12 hours average among Thais.

 

The difference as always is between use & abuse. And for some people weed doesn't work, for others it does. Same as some only drink beer, while others only drink wine, and others only hard liquor. While the one drinking beer would be going bad on hard liquor, the one drinking it thrives on that and gets sleepy on beer etc etc etc. Idiot people are the ones whining doing something they don't, to protect their own insecure choices.

I'm stealing with from Kitty Chopaka but, let's say that I get a recommendations/prescription for cannabis for migraines.  

 

I am smoking a joint to help me with my migraine pain and take 2 puffs.  

 

Now my migraine pain has eased and I take a 3rd puff as I rolled a nice sativa that helps me focus and be creative and I need to crank out some writing for work.  Is that third puff medicinal or recreational?  

 

Keep in mind, I was not prescribed cannabis for focus, only for migraine pain.  

 

You starting to see how stupid the distinction between medical and recreational is now?

Yes, I admit that inhalers are good - I take two of them for my COPD but this article is about banning cannabis.

I don't advocate for that but it seems a lot simpler than making cannabis use for "recreational" purposes illegal and throwing people in jail.

Yes, the former Justice Minister who supported Anutin, and who was also in favor of the changes that Anutin made to the cannabis criminal laws in June 2022, is now the new Public Health Minister. And the former health minister, who was against cannabis, is now out of the position.  

 

It remains to be seen what happens next, and the article linked below is clear as mud about what is on the horizon, but I suspect the new Public Health Minister was put there by Anutin and others from the coalition who are pro cannabis in order to prevent cannabis from being made illegal again, or even to be seriously regulated in any way. 

 

At the end of the day, the issue of for and against cannabis in the government really only comes down to financial interests. It's not about health and safety as they claim. 

 

The financial interests in the alcohol industry has probably been impacted the worst by cannabis no longer being illegal, but at the same time there is too much at stake financially for the country to just make cannabis illegal again. Prawit and Anutin have their own large financial interests in it too. And it's an industry worth well over $1 billion a year in Thailand and still growing. And especially now that the local economy is struggling with high interest rates, an increase of non-performing loans, and personal debt spiraling out of control, wiping out the economic benefits from cannabis would be a very bad idea. 

 

Enforcement of strict cannabis laws would also be a doubly challenging issue to undertake now that the industry has become so entrenched over the last 2 years with industry infrastructure, plus all the networks of growers, sellers, and buyers. Seems almost mechanically impossible to put the genie back in the bottle and break up the business now.

He says and states a lot of things he wants to do as if he has sweeping dictatorial powers. He also told the BOT to reduce interest rates multiple times and yet they haven't. Outlawing cannabis will be very difficult for him and his party to try and pull off without support from the coalition. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prawit Wongsuwon, and Somsak Thepsuthin won't support it and it would be a big loss of face for Anutin if he were to make cannabis a criminal narcotic again. The 3 are also all big power players in government and with large vested interests in the cannabis industry.
