So I don't want to derail his thread into just laughing at Trump people here. -PLUS, so much of their ardor feels weirdly performative. They hold armloads of fairly liberal positions on everything from healthcare to gun control. And then travel, which real republicans never do. Finally, they are very suspiciously Jesus-lite. I've asked about this dozens of times, and they always turn into Marcel Marceau when pressed. I suspect that they are just lazy faux-contrarians. Back on topic, ONLY liberals care about Thai culture or cultural anything. Conservatives are truly just here for the cheap noodles and willing women. As I tour Morocco, I am extremely unlikely to encounter a republican. Liberals in general are more likely to be expats for that reason. Then pretend-conservatives like we find here, and then finally, ex-military who are likely to have some former connection to a place they expat to. I guess I'm conservative then (I kind of am) because I did study Thai culture in my earlier years here and discovered it's really not my cup of tea, so I treat Thailand like a poorer man's Miami. It's strictly transactional. Of course mainstream American culture isn't my thang either! Edited March 7 by Jingthing

The culture of Buddhism, the practice of meditation, is something that a lot of people like me like about Buddhism in Thailand. By Thai Buddhist standards, a California-style Buddhist is to a local Buddhist what a quaker would be to a catholic. Caveat: I am not a Buddhist. Conservative interest in other cultures is at the level of: "It's poisoning our blood" (hilarious real quote). The only question is about the numbers. I guess I might qualify. The Covid decimation of my Appalachian county (one in four dead) and the subsequent local health system collapse was a primary cause of our move. But that was only tangentially connected to Fattie. We'd made our peace with the Lord Lovers and fake militia cammo wearers long ago. We called them: Family. I see Latte sippers moving to a blue state instead of overseas. As long as I'm here, Morocco is up and coming as retirement place for Frenchies. Problems: A grand a month to rent an apartment in Casablanca in a whitie-friendly area. Where you'd want to be to be near so-so health care.

Walker88
Actual TDS, as opposed to the projected version, is the affliction of people who think a clown who schlepps NFTs of himself as a fighter pilot or astronaut, and whose major announcement is selling golden sneakers made in China, is a good candidate for President of the United States of America. That fake astronaut is the same guy who regularly ran to the White House bunker when a Code Pink protest (the average Code Pinker is a 70 year old lady) appeared on Pennsylvania Ave. Not exactly "The Right Stuff", though he does have the right stuffing, as in the same morbid obesity his cult carries. LOL!!!!!
Popular Post Walker88
Maybe I'll be the only one (to cheers from the chubby old bald trumpers, swilling beers on their Pattaya barstools, who live in Thailand anyway, and not the US). trumpers are, by definition, idiots. They actually think a clown who schlepps NFTs of himself pretending to be an astronaut or a fighter pilot---kind of like a 21st Century Village People---is the kind of person who should be POTUS. Let's not forget his latest business venture: golden sneakers made in China. LOL!!! Ask a trumper what their messiah's policies are and they'll say "close the borders" and then maybe "own the libs". trump has no other policies, as he's too dumb to even begin to understand how to run a $30 trillion economy, just as he has no idea how to run a business, except via fraud (as the courts have now shown). Oh...I forgot..."play golf" is another policy, as in trump 1.0 he ran up $170,000,000 in costs to the US taxpayer with his golfing, according the the Office of Management and Budget. Look at what he did---vs his promises and hyperbolic claims---while serving before: ---built only 54 miles of his "wall" along a 1800 mile border, despite having an R House and Senate for his first 2 years....and despite claiming "Mexico will pay", got not a single peso from Mexico. Zero. ---Promised to replace the Affordable Care Act with something "unbelievable", but absolutely failed to deliver anything, and never had an idea, despite claiming he had 'the best healthcare plan ever' ---Repeatedly promised "Next week is Infrastructure Week", but like Godot, it never showed up (until Biden delivered it) ---Enacted tariffs on Chinese goods, claiming "China will pay". China paid as much as Mexico did for donny's wall. The US consumers, however, did have to pay. Then because China retaliated by switching food sourcing to Brazil, trump had to massively increase US Socialism, by handing money to farmers ---Did get a $2 trillion tax cut, which went to guys like me, but began a level of fiscal profligacy never seen on the planet, ending up with an $8,400,000,000,000 National Debt increase, an amount that dwarfed any GDP growth over that time, meaning he just ran up the US credit cards, with the mailman coming with the bills later ---trump's economy rode the coattails of what Obama did. Imagine if 2008/9 had happened in 2017 (The Financial Crisis). Mr 6 Bankruptcies wouldn't have had a clue how to address it. The US banking system and insurance industry would have collapsed So, trumpers, what are trump's actual policies? Having fired anyone remotely competent in his first Administration, who are the "best people" trump will get for any Admin 2.0? MTG?, Bimboebert? Matt PizzaGaetz? His entire pool of "best people" are all losers and clowns. Maybe trump will announce KKKristianity is now the official religion of the US, though he will have already suckered US Talibangicals who actually believe trump even knows how to hold their book rightside up. But hey, two Corinthians walked into a bar..... The first crisis trump faces, if he is elected and if he remains out of jail, he will fail miserably. Injecting Lysol didn't work the first time, and it certainly is not the be all, end all for any subsequent crisis. Fail is what trump does. Only his Game Show Host gig got him out of the financial hole after he squandered his massive inheritance + allowance + daddy's co-signature on donny's loans. I suspect trump will rule over the collapse of the US. Timing will be important. The markets will see his abject incompetence---in fact, trump will throw a monkey wrench into the economy, doing something typically trumpian, which means idiotic, such as when he suggested he would default on US Debt owed to foreigners. Only Steve Cohn saved the US debt market and the dollar by telling trump it would not be wise for a country needing foreigners to fund its deficits to default on those same needed foreigners. There will be no Steve Cohn in any trump 2.0. trump will have a Lou Dobbs or MTG or maybe Ivanka, not Cohn. As trump fails, he will do the only thing he knows how to do (other than fail): he will find someone else to blame. Maybe it will be immigrants, maybe Moslems, maybe even Jews. Remember trump did say "some very fine people" about folks who marched with tikitorches chanting "Jews will not replace us". So I won't be there should trump 2.0 happen. Yes, trumpers won't miss me any more than I'll miss being around idiots like them. I have several foreign properties as well as residence cards, including in the EU. I have sufficient wealth to endure any disaster trump creates. Not everyone does. Those who will suffer most are the very people who support the guy, as their [lack of] skills and talents will leave them destitute as the US economy tumbles. There will be some schadenfreude watching his goobers suffer. They deserve it, so there will be no sympathy as the US declines, perhaps not into a Third World hellhole---or is that Sh!thole?---but decline it will be. I will plan for a collapse of the dollar and soaring US interest rates, as trump is fully capable of instigating both. I might even still come on this Forum and say, "I told you so". That would be childish, but childish is something trumpers understand very well, because their messiah is just an incompetent, petulant, albeit vindictive child.
