SRT Launches Campaign to Promote Local Artisans

BANGKOK (NNT) - The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has announced the launch of the “OTOP Products by the Railway” campaign, offering free space at train stations for local artisans to sell their products. The campaign recently kicked off at the Bangkok Apiwat Central Station, drawing the interest of commuters, long-distance travelers, and foreign tourists alike. 

 

The initiative, according to Deputy Transport Minister Surapong Piyachote, is part of an effort to create new sales channels for products from the One Tambon One Product (OTOP) program.

 

Expanding on this initiative, SRT has also introduced the “Train Station for Producers and Consumers” project. The additional effort aims to support local economies by providing farmers and artisans with free space at train stations to display and sell their goods on weekends.

If you are lucky.. maybe wandering through the train at stops. Watch your bags!

Nakhon Pathom to Hua Hin on the slow train was always a hit, 3 hour journey on the rambling line, windows open and ceiling fans just about hanging on, each station stop was greeted with the ladies getting on/off with the local delicacy... often very good.

But now interspersed with the younger generation, with tacky fayre and wanting crazy prices.

Yes I recall doing that trip many years ago,  the quaint station at Hua Hin etc. Also the train ride 'Bridge over the River Kwai' area, Death Railway. All very commercialized nowadays and probably lacking in charm.
