The Consumers Council has urged the government to temporarily reduce the cost of electricity to alleviate the burden on  households during the hot season. Despite three proposed adjustments by the Energy Commission, none would offer lower prices. The Council proposes lowering the tariff from 4.18 to 3.99 baht per kilowatt-hour from May to August this year. 

 

Thailand started the delivery of aid to Myanmar yesterday in a humanitarian initiative that seeks to pave the way for talks between warring camps after three years of instability and violence.


The first batch of 4,000 bags of rice, dried food and other essentials for 20,000 people was delivered in a convoy by the Thai Red Cross to its Myanmar counterpart at the Mae Sot-Myawaddy border crossing.

 

A Senator has accused a department of Agriculture task force of extorting money from rubber growers and traders. The task force seized 600 tonnes of rubber worth 15 million baht from a villager in Kanchanaburi, letting it decay for a month over a disputed origin  of 29 tonnes of the consignment.. Another grower was falsely accused of smuggling rubber. The Senator alleges the task force deployed officers in 30 cars daily to extort money from rubber transporters at checkpoints between Thailand and neighboring countries.


The Supreme Administrative Court ruled it would allow lower courts to accept lawsuits from five consumers opposing the merger of True and Dtac mobile phone operators.  The court's ruling declared that Mobile providers are inherently a semi-monopoly which is detrimental to the public. The deal Consumer rights groups are concerned that the merger could result in a duopoly with only two major players in the market, 


The government says it will launch its 10,000 baht digital wallet handout scheme in the last quarter of the year, The 500-billion-baht scheme was due to be launched in May, but the legality of the scheme has been called into question, the anti corruption commission has warned the government of a minefield of potential pitfalls
