Russian man arrested in Pattaya for illegal trade linked to a suicide

Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD) officers arrested a Russian man at a luxury penthouse in Pattaya yesterday for allegedly running an illegal trade, which led to the suicide of a Thai woman.

 

ECD officers arrested the 40 year old Russian man, Alexey Vegman, at his penthouse yesterday, April 4 on an accusation of illegally trading. Vegman reportedly denied all allegations and is now being questioned at the ECD office.

 

Officers conducted raids at his penthouse and two other houses in the area and seized several items of evidence related to the crime including, seven laptops, three mobile phones, six electronic cards, 14 bank accounts, four cheque books, and nine secure pass devices.

 

These secure pass devices are used to generate one-time passwords (OTPs) to access online financial transaction systems.

 

Vegman’s arrest follows a complaint filed by relatives of a Thai woman named Nawaporn. According to police reports, Nawaporn committed suicide after investing in Forex trading through an agent.

 

Nawaporn then encouraged others to invest with her and managed to gather an investment of over 20 million baht. Unfortunately, Nawaporn lost all the money and was unable to repay the other investors, which led to her suicide.

 

The agent Nawaporn invested with was an illegal trader and Vegman was allegedly involved in its operation. The Russian man did not operate alone and police are conducting further investigations to apprehend the remaining suspects.

 

Police reported that this illegal agent operated for about three years and had funds of over 100 billion baht circulating within his business.

 

In a related incident, three Russian men and a Thai woman were arrested for illegally operating a restaurant in Phuket. One of the Russian men hired a Thai woman as a nominee to gain the restaurant operating permit. Another Russian man was a shareholder, while the remaining Russian national worked as a finance manager.

 

Another Russian woman is wanted by Thai police for conspiring with two Thai women to operate fake companies to illegally assist foreigners with their visas, work permits, and business permits. The Russian woman is also suspected of involvement in money laundering activities.

Even with the visas received from the embassies in homeland, the scrunity is not waterproof, it is well known those countries whose citizens Mr Shretta granted free access, are the worst of all, with a proven reputation all around the world, they will go in crime at large numbers. The main culprits are the real estate developers, they are greedy to take the quick money, but they don't care about the future of the country.

Don't talk silly........ blocking approximately 20-30 million tourists is hardly a great financial move for the country.

Even if having a criminal record, it may not stop them from entering.   I have a couple felony convictions, that were expunged, but FBI still has record (illegally) of, and has popped up from time to time when security checks done in the past.   Simply pointed out they shouldn't have record of, and all approved what I was applying for, though none visa application related.

 

Although many times, almost all, when entering USA, Imm asked if I had any guns or drugs, and I don't think that is your typical question for a Yank returning.  As don't know anyone I traveled with that was asked those questions, males or females.  I knew the questions were coming, so I always stated 'traveling alone', as didn't want anyone to get tagged with 'guilt by association'.

 

Do agree the visa vetting system is broken, especially with the computers they have today that aren't utilized.   Non-expunged records should be accessible to all Imm offices of all countries.  As rare someone's felony record is expunged after conviction, unless part of the plea agreement.  And wouldn't happen for a repeat offender, keeping out the worst of the worse.

It took Plod 3 years to find this activity.  I can point to a dozen addresses where this goes on; AND they're not FAKE!

The first actual Russian I ever met was while sitting outside a mini mart in Phnom Penh years ago. While having a beer the lady ran out screaming. I was a regular customer and she said please come and help. There was a naked Russin guy maybe 30 yrs old in their shopping. But he didn’t have a wallet. I said hello and he said ‘I have my passport, I have my passport’. Then the cops came and were so embarrassed they left him wandering around on the street. Thirty minutes later some plainclothes cops were seen escorting him away in handcuffs. The next one I met was while taking a TEFL Course in BKK. He wanted me to play the front man for an illegal business and pretend I was a lawyer. OK, that’s the first two.

I guess I should clarify, as don't want to ruin my squeaky clean, holier than thou image on the forum 

 

Arrests/convictions were for drug, (non-distribution), and quality was the issue, not quantity, along with firearms.   Nothing predatory (personal use/victimless crimes) on our fellow humans.

 

I despise predators of society and they shouldn't be allowed to walk amongst us.

 

Only mentioned to show, the vetting process is anything but perfect, although as stated, repeat offenders would have a very hard time getting anything expunged.

Back in 98-99 there was Great Fidelity company that run Forex trading. Chinese and SG ownership and management. Rama VI road, green building. they screwed dozens of "investors" >>> nothing happened.

 

However that Forex trading, as well as crypto and binary options are very dangerous and should be avoided and explained to average folks.
