TM7 Confusing

Does anyone else get confused about the way the TM7 form is laid out. Time and again, I fill it in and then realise that I've filled it in under the wrong headings. There must be a way for Immigration to produce a form simple enough for ninety year old codgers like me to get right first time. My brain hurts.😉

Personally long way from 90 however already planning to move to using agent.

I also end up with some scrubbing out of some parts, normally the dates.  It would be a piece of cake to change the format to something more out of this century but that's unlikely to happen until the next.  I also wonder why anything is in Thai at all, 99% of people filling the form can't read Thai and one would hope that 90% of the immigration folks can read enough English to know hat has been declared.  But, take it easy and we always get there in the end.

There is a fillable version of the TM7 form included in ubonjoe's post dated 13 May 2017 in the pinned Immigration Templates thread. This will prompt you on what needs to be completed and where if filling out the form on a computer.

1. Download the TM7 form from the TH Immig web site

2. Save it on your computer

3. Fill it for year one

4. Save the edited version

5. Print it

6. Following years, edit, save & print the doc again and again (worth checking, time to time, that TH Immig didn't change it)

Indeed. A school child could design a better form. And why is it also in Thai? The only people who complete it are foreigners, and the immigration officers surely understand English as most of the people they deal with are foreigners who don't understand Thai. On, wait... 

 

It would be interesting to see their reaction if someone who is proficient in Thai completed the form in Thai, wouldn't it. No no mista, cannot! 😄

I wish that people would just name the form instead of using TM??

I have no idea what a TM7 is and no intention of looking it up.

It took me ages to get used to forms where they wanted dates and I would complete the full date in the box, only to see on the next line a box marked "Month"!

Thai immigration forms are all about, well...form, rather than substance. They're confusing and poorly formatted, but the officers also don't seem to care what's written in most of the spaces as long as they've been filled in using the right color of ink. 

 

A start would be to make them into actual forms, rather than the current weird format in which they're laid out like letters from the applicant to the head of immigration. A logical next step would be to combine most of them into a single form on which you could just check a box to show why you were filling it out, since many/most of the forms ask for exactly the same information. But I won't hold my breath waiting for any of those things to happen.

- TM7 refused -> reason: printed using "BLACK INKT". Must be in "BLUE INKT".
- TM7 refused -> reason: filled the dats and address in in Thai. MUST BE IN ENGLISH ONLY!!!!
- TM7 refused -> reason: the TM7 was signed on a printed document. Signature must be HANDWRITTEN!!!
- TM7 refused -> reason: TM7 was apparently an older version. UPDATE.

The list is almost endless.
MAIN REASON: It all depends on which foot of the officer touched the ground first when he/she got out of bed.

I too have completed the TM 7 in Adobe Acrobat.  Since I haven’t changed where I live, I just pull up the form on my computer, save it with a new name, edit the PDF to change the relevant dates, and then print it out using two-sided printing which my Brother does automatically.  I copy the completed form to three separate places for security and then I’m good to go until next year.

I was once rejected from my application because I had printed the TM7 in BLACK ink.
Must be in BLUE ink.

I went to the copy shop in front of the Immigration office and asked to print the document with the information in BLUE INK.
Went back to Immigration and presented the documents for review.
TM7 was still not accepted because when the girl at the copy shop chose to print it in color, the original document was printed in a shade of Gray and it had to be BLACK>

Took a Blanco TM7 and filled it in by hand on the spot.
Presented the documents back to the officer and it was refused because I had filled my address in THAI.
Must be in English.

 

I wanted to reply to the officer how the many people who are from Burma or Cambodia do fill their TM7 in?
Are they all fluent in English?
Why is the TM7 in English and in Thai when we are only allowed to use English?
But I tought that it would be wiser to not ask such a question to a walking amoeba.

Very difficult for me as I lost the ability to write in 1995 due to a stroke with Right-Side disabled.
I got about 85% of my right side back with exercises at the hospital, but the fine movements were lost forever.
That's the reason why I chose to complete TM7 by typing on the computer and printing it out.

When will an intelligent bureaucrat come up with banning and removing all these absurd requirements that harass the quality retirees in Thailand ? Other Asian countries are far less a hassle and more respectful towards the elderly foreigners who do bring in a bit of money here.

If an "Intelligent Bureaucrat" would come up with this, all the Visa-Agents would be jobless in no time and the Side-Hustling of the Immigration Officers would be gone.

Has anyone submitted a computer printed TM7 that's in black ink to Jomtien Immigration and its been accepted?

I have submitted my yearly TM 7 to CW immigration for many years.  It’s always in black ink; however, I sign it with blue ink.  I carry a blue pen with me to immigration so that I can sign all of my documents in blue ink.  I sign the TM 7 in front of the IO.  I’ve never seen any of the forms printed in blue.

As @ubonjoe has stated different offices different needs.

Phitsanulok was fine with the computer copy but my nearest office is Phetchabun and immediately said no must be hand written, also they will not accept the downloaded forms as they have preprinted their own forms which have all the various coloured stamps included, that is from my direct experience, others have not had the same "guidance" from them like the "must use blue ink".

On a slightly related note:

I was at immigration recently, applying for an O visa , and met with the usual excessive paperwork, 2 copies of everything including the docs in the above post.

I fell foul of the “ blue v black pen “ syndrome, which I had previously thought was a myth, and suffered the icy stare of the IO for this , honestly anyone would have thought I had snook into her house and pissed in her fridge by the look of disgust I got for this misdemeanour !!

Apparently , the blue ink helps them distinguish the original documents from the photocopies !!

I nearly suggested they stopped photocopying every fu%#ing document but stopped myself just in time .

Quite believable I'm afraid.

I had some photocopies rejected by SCB because I'd signed them in black, "looks too much like a photocopy, please use blue pen".

Blue pens are readily availalble even in the US.

I did an extension in Korat today. 

While I was filling out the many forms TM7 included, I noticed several people were also filling out forms as the ones that they had filled out online weren't acceptable. 

It appears everything has to be done on one's own handwriting.  I find this a bit backwards in some ways as my handwriting is very close to chicken scrawl. 

It has been a while since I last applied for an extension. I'd forgotten how many different forms you need.  Official immigration website just mentions TM7 and providing a photo. 

No mention of certificate of residence, copy of house book, copy of missus ID card, notification of residence, Form acknowledging penalties for overstay. And a few others I can't remember. 

No longer a simple process but I did manage to get it all done on second visit. Only took an hour on the second visit. 

Not really looking forward to applying for retirement visa... Might take the easy option via an agent.

Re. My 'Anyone confused by TM7 form' question. I did my application yesterday 8th May at Jomtien and it went very quickly. Maybe because my wife was in charge as usual. The only hiccup was that I had to go and get another photo, this time with a white background. No comment on the amount of Tippex white paper I'd used on my application form. The young officer handling the application recognised my wife from previous years and congratulated here on all her documentation being perfect. As for me. I sat like a dummy and kept schtum. Passport to be collected Monday.. It used to be 'after 2 o'clock.' Then 'the next day.' Maybe the accumulation of public holidays has caused the delay. Anyway. I'm chilled out till next year.

TM stands for Too Moo which is immigration (or close to it) in Thai, so makes sense.

It depends where you do the application as all those mentioned are not a issue for Phuket immigration.
